While we're on the subject...
I've done it! I've finally got them there long-promised, oft-forgotten comp CDs done and dusted. I'll be PMing everyone who wanted copies to check that their addresses are the same (it's been a long time). Anyone who wasn't included way back when and wants some, PM me and I'll get onto it.
The 'various' one contains: Tiger Ranks, Make Up, Pernice Brothers, Future Pilot AKA, Quasi, Giant Sand, Papa M, Royal Trux, Ann Peebles, De La Soul, Wilco, Fourtet, Sly & The Family Stone, Nick Drake, Mercury Rev, My Bloody Valentine and Fridge.
The dub compilation stopped being purely dub a while back, and is now made up of many flavours of Jamaican music (virtually all '60s and '70s stuff, I'm afraid; I'm still seeking guidance on newer material). I've taken great pleasure in breaking some of the rules of compilation-making on this one, but given just how prolific Lee Perry and Augustus Pablo were (and the fact that, between them, they either produced or appeared on seemingly every album released in the '70s), it's kind of unavoidable. Plenty of others on there, including:
Dillinger! Mad Professor! Jackie Mittoo! Prince Far I! King Tubby! Max Romeo! Dr. Alimantado! Jimmy Cliff! Prince Jammy! And many, many more!
The soul collection is languishing in compilation hell. |
