Another revival on: the Electroclash album, Fischerspooner, Little Computer People, A.R.E. Weapons, Japanese Telecom, the International Deejay Gigolos label, The Other People Place, magazines like Sleazenation banging on about "synthcore"....

This'n's better than most: at least the music feels fresh and exciting and (and, Lyra, this is for YOU) you can dance to most of it.... Less of a revival, more like the kick up the arse dance music needs, as far as I'm concerned.

Thoughts?

re: Fischerspooner

They keep insisting that they aren't really a music group, and that their stageshow and fashion ideas are the main thrust of their operation... the music is made mainly so that they have a soundtrack for their stage show. Just thought you may find that interesting...

I've seen them live. It was quite a spectacle, but not neccessarily in a good way.

Revival, it never died did it?
Westbam, Invisble Man (aka Freddie Fresh), Plenty of Nu Skool breaks, Miami Bass, Alpine Stars....

Would go on, but I'll have to get to my record collection. Though I'm intrigued by the names I have not heard of before.
Checked the latest International Gigolos release, it is really retro.

I'm actually a little tired of the eighties electro sound that eveyone and their dog seems to be doing now. I'd much rather hear the the harder edged Murder City stuff or some proper Detroit booty shaking stuff. I do have to admit to a fondness for The Hacker, I-F and Anthony Rother (when he's not doing the Little Computer People project thing), but it seems there's a lot of bandwagon jumping and scenestering going on...when I hear terms like 'synthcore' and 'new school new wave' I want to run a mile.

But I don't think this "new" thing has anything to do w/ the tired, boring wave of early hip-hop copyists thst lounged around the trip-hop scene in the mid nineties. Something's really going on. The sound ranges from a Soft Cellish vibe (Memoryboy), to weird electro punk (A.R.E. Weapons) to the utterly sublime Other People Place (who, it turns out, are comprised of the guys behind the Electroids. And I gather they were big names, but I dunno who)... While this stuff references the eighties, it definitely brings something modern and tasty to the mix. Little Computer People's "Follow The leader" is sooo good. For all intents and purposes, it should be a cliched electro cheese fest, but something about the way it's constructed, the attention paid to the details - the layering, the sounds - allows it to transcend, somehow, to go beyond, the dull and naff copycat shite. I don't know where I'm going w/ this, just to say that I think a lot of this stuff is very good.
