Kym quits Hearsay in bizarre 'pot', 'kettle' incident

The MSN report

It seems strangethat Kym would be willing to quit the band because of a publicity stunt when they owe their existence to one...

However, the BBC report seems to think it's just that she wants her own career. And we thought that Darius was the worst of our problems...

Looks like they're going to get one of the Pop Idol losers to replace her. I think we should support Hearsay, Nearsay, Darius et al because in 20 years time the Rock Family Tree for this lot is going to be fascinating...

Perhaps an opening for one of those unemployed steps retards.

Tch'yeah! God, I hope they split up! They're ruining music and my life! In fact, I hope they all die horribly! Of cancer!

Etc.

Has it not occurred to anyone that it's entirely plausible that this woman's refusal to perform for British troops in Oman might have been motivated by, say, opposition to the actions of the British military? And therefore worthy of some admiration?

yeah: i had the same argument with friends... considering the complete lack of any real dissent from the glitterati in general - and that includes the so-called 'cooler' element - this was a real relief. my understanding is that she had agreed to go over and perform for the troops, but, realising the entire thing was to be documented and exploited to boost ailing sales, withdrew. good for her.

hmm. off to start new thread on the stars' response to the new new world order...

The idea that a member of Here'say knew where Oman was is a little hard to believe.
Or she just decided that staying in the band was worse than staying at home and getting covered in kiddie sick.

Why?

Or is it something to do with the fact that they don't write their own songs?

God, yeah. Stupid single mum wanting to become a pop star. Jeez. She should know her place, right?
And can you imagine anyone from Wigan, for God's sake, knowing where a foreign country was? Why don't these people just stay at home and draw their benefits, and be happy about it?
Hear'Say had absolutely no artistic merit at all. They just made annoying pop songs! For kids! It's just so... wrong. Why don't they all just go away? Come back Cabaret Voltaire, all is truly forgiven.

Sorry, why are we being so sniffy about this again? I seem to have forgotten.

Well I'm totally impressed by the standing up for popstars vibe thats going on in here today, seriously you've given my faith in the human race !

It's what I was talking about in the poink thread !!

Hooray for all of you !

I could not care less where she is from or if they write there own songs or not. She wanted to be a pop star enough to put her self through that whole circus in the first place. That was/is her job of choice. If she really did do this for a political reason why not just say so.

What, so she could get lots of "you don't know anything about politics - you're just a manufactured pop-singer" jibes? Hmmm.

I don't see how your derision for her (former) job applies to the political side of the decision - if there was one. Or maybe entertainers just aren't allowed to get fucked off with their jobs, eh?

Yes, entertainers can get fucked off with their lots, so does everybody else. You seem to be suggesting that she can't speak her mind without fear of someone taking a pop at her, so!. What did she think she was getting herself into. Looking at it one way maybe she just wanted to make bundle and then split. Well, great. But should we rap them in cotton wool, we all deal with shit all the time, why are pop stars any different.

Er. Possibly because most of us don't get comments made about us which are very patronising and are based solely on our occupation, such as:

The idea that a member of Here'say knew where Oman was is a little hard to believe.

But that does happen and it shouldn't - the whole "she's a star she knew it would be like this" isn't really that fair

- if someone started a topic on this board stating "I'm totally pissed off with my job" you wouldn't expect someone to tell them, Oh well you knew if would be like this, stop moaning about it (would you?)

Say hello to The Popstar Crusader !

I think the crucial question is, would the same assumptions have been made if it had been a (probably male) member of a critically-acclaimed, ultra-cool indie rock band refusing to play for 'our boys'? (Let's ignore the likelihood of them being asked to...)

The answer, of course, being "Would they fuck."

Unless it was five years ago and the chap inquestion was Crispian Mills from Kula Shaker...

(Yes, I realise this is stretching the concept of 'critically-acclaimed, ultra-cool indie rock band'.)

No, because she was willing to go until she found out the trip was going to be filmed and documented, hence my 'pot', 'kettle' remark.
