Ok, it may simply be me being dim - but what track(s?) feature Allen Ginsberg on Combat Rock?

"Ghetto Defendant."

Do the worm on necropolis, slam-dance cosmopolis, enlighten the populace... allah that bit.

Which is itself of a reggae song called "Queen of the Ghetto". You can find the unabridged version on the "Clash On Broadway" box set (Glynn Johns considerably cut down "Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg" <origional title> to make "Combat Rock").

I'd never heard that. But after a double album and then a triple album (which tanked badly, IIRC), can you blame the label for being a bit nervous about releasing another sprawler?

I think Combat Rock in its released form works pretty well--it's all over the place musically, as wildly eclectic as Sandinista, but in more tightly-focused bursts.

If that's due mostly to Glyn Johns, then more power to him: even the greatest writers find themselves in desperate need of an editor from time to time.
