As I'm sure I've bragged about more than enough already, I'm going to All Tomorrows Parties in LA.

Now on the line-up, between and below all the big-hitters, there are a whole bunch of bands and artists - presumably American underground ones - whom I've never heard of.

Thus, does anyone have any info. about, opinions on or records by any of the following:

Unwound
Neil Micheal Hagerty
US Maple
White Out
Tony Conrad
Christina Rosenvinge
Quixotic
Jackie O Motherfucker*
Erase Errata
Mad Lib
Califone
Chris Lee
Pita
Destroy All Monsters
Bride of No No
Sacchrine Trust
Deerhoof
Dead C
Black Dice

*(actually, there's a track by these people on a CD Flux sent me - it's kind of intriguing, I can't quite decide whether it's genius or prop nonsense, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because they've got a cool name.)

Erase Errata are noisy post-riot grrls, namechecked on the recent Le Tigre LP... I've heard a couple of tracks: they have the melody-to-sound-of-hitting-dustbins-with-sticks ratio a bit off for my liking, but worth checking out.

Mad Lib (I'm sure it's Mad Libs though) is some underground rapper guy. Don't really know anything else about him though...

Unwound - frankly, I'm amazed that you don't know them, Rizla. they are a big indie rock deal, they are a band from Olympia, they are on Kill Rock Stars (and Matador Europe in the UK). Their new album is quite up your alley, it's a double LP called Leaves Turn Inside You, and it brings to mind Mogwai, but with vocals and a bit more balls. They used to be more punk, but they've gone for a more sinister vibe lately. I recommend picking the new one up, I think you in particular would really like them.

Neil Micheal Hagerty - You've heard of Royal Trux, right? Well, he's the lead guitar player/singer, and he's solo now.

US Maple - an oddball avant band from Chicago on the Drag City label. they are like all the weirdest bits of a Captain Beefheart album with all the more normal bits cut out. They opened for Pavement on a sizeable chunk of their final US tour, and scared/pissed off almost everyone in Pavement audiences coast to coast, for months and months and months, there was intense debates about the merits of this band on Pavement discussion forums...

Christina Rosenvinge - She's on an SY related label, I think Smells Like Records, I may be wrong. She's like an arty version of latin pop... what I've heard is inoffensive, but nothing special.

Quixotic - a band from Washington DC. they kinda alternate between odd twitchy DC postpunk (which should be obvious cos the leader used to be in Slant 6) and girl group harmonies. Nice folks, good band.

Jackie O Motherfucker* - as you note, I did send you a cd with a song by them on it. that song is fairly indicative of what they do, which is pretty much a rock version of early 60s Charles Mingus...

Califone - an offshoot of the band Red Red Meat. a lot of treated tape loops, studio trickery, distant murmured vocals. not unlike Red Red Meat, really.

Sacchrine Trust - really aggressive punk bands from NYC circa early 80s. I've never liked them.

Dead C - an extremely prolific noise band from New Zealand. I've only heard a few things by them, but I haven't really liked them. very loud. the song "Trapdoors Fucking Exit" is pretty good, I have that song on a cdr recently sent to me...

Black Dice - my friend's band! they are from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, they are an extremely hard, aggressive noise band. Very very intense. I don't particularly like them.

That's it!

As soon as the money situation is figured out in March (first time I get payed after moving in Feb.) I am placing several large orders with several different record labels. Hmmm....

Thanks for the descriptions Flux, I can't wait to check out all these bands, they sound almost universally wonderful..

..I'll have to take pots of cash so I can buy records by the ones I like the most..

I still want to know about:

Destroy All Monsters
Bride of No No
Deerhoof

because they have cool names.

I'm positive I've seen a Destroy All Monsters single or album or poster. Not the movie, but the band. Not sure where.
And I don't think it was these guys, either.
