So is JB back or what? Those grunts and yelps, plus the great horns and sparse drums - one 'a the funkiest hip hop records ever, easily.

Damn I like this one, and Mystikal had always seemed so terminally average before, in that awful Ja Rule kinda vein. Anybody got the album? Is the rest of it any good?

All I know is that I was shocked to hear that song, because I would never expect anything of such high quality from Mystikal...the track is amazing...his skills as an MC are a bit lacking, but it really doesn't matter with that song. Haven't heard the rest of the LP, though.

Haven't heard it yet, but hey, lay off. 'Shake that ass' was a really great song - okay, not for the emceeing, but still fantastic.

Yeah, examined the sleeve a bit more closely and found out that the Neptunes had done the production. They have now gone way up in my estimation (I always thought they were good, just not that inspired. Now they are gods of the MPC).

Ah, The Neptunes...it all makes sense now.

Hey, I enjoy "Shake Ya Ass" too, but not so much for it being a great song or anything... It's a good booty song, but that's about as far as it goes, you know?

Speaking of the Neptunes. What's the story on N.E.R.D. my foggy memory seems to draw a line between the two. Course, I might be thinking of something else.

Damn memory

N.E.R.D. = The Neptunes' personal project, their 'band name'.

They made a really fantastic record, pulled it from the market, and now they are about to release a new version of that record recorded with 'real' instruments instread of electronics and samplers.

Predictions? If my fuzzy memory serves, the track I heard was cool. But I can't remember anything about it.

You know that sick feeling where you go to say, "are you serious?", but realise they are before it comes out of your mouth?

I am having that now.

There seems to be some confusion though in the press over whether this was a decision enforced on the Neptunes by their record company, or a decision they made themselves (presumably under the influence of a huuuuuge bag of mushrooms, weed, acid and E).

Or possibly the influence of lack of same.

"Hey, we're clean now! Let's make some real music..."

Everything I've read suggests that the decision was theirs, they had a philosophical change of heart or something. They also had a band that they liked who were going to do it all for them...

I can't imagine a 'real' band improving on any of those songs...in fact, they really would just take away from it, I think. How the hell could "Brain" sound better than it already does?

Anyone wanna check out the Neptunes remix of Daft Punk "Bigger, harder, faster" on audiogalaxy?

Sounds pretty much like you'd expect it to, which is to say that it is excellent. Not in the same class as the mystikal track though...

Thanks. Post wasn't supposed to sound that needy, but thanks anyways. I'll try to hook you up with something by the NYC meet.
