worst gig of the year

stealing from gig of the year:

what was your worst?

mine was no surprise, as it was to see my ex roomie/ex-almost-brother-in-laws band at their cd release party. they have this pop-punk band which is really enormously popular with the teeny-bopper set. I was quite clearly one of the oldest people in the crowd (with the exception of someones mom and my ex fiance), which is really disconcerting. and depressing. I came just to see them, yet left before the set was over, I simply could not get into it even enough to stand still the whole time

they did end up getting signed, which is a clear indication that it was simply my taste in music and crowds and not their performance (go you guys, even if you do suck much ass)

And now I'm wondering which local band I should be avoiding. Though, not being a huge fan of pop punk, it's probably not a big worry.

I think my worst gig this year has nothing to do with the band. My friend's got thier first gig at the 930 club in DC, and I ended up spending a large portion of the show outside, keeping the drummer's girlfriend company after she got kicked out for under age drinking. Tried to tell her that DC isn't like the college towns she's used to, but she wouldn't listen.

I don't often go to see bands I don't like, and even when I do I'm easy to please as long as they make a good ol' noise.

Some friends dragged me along to see Elbow and they nearly put me to sleep - like 'Ok Computer' era Radiohead without the good bits - though the singer seemed like a really nice guy who was genuinely happy that his band's record was in the top 40 and lots of people had turned out to see them.

Oh no, I know what the worst gig of the year was, OOBERMAN! I kinda liked a few of their singles .. but seeing them play was completely overcome by the realization that they suck beyond all reasonable belief.. thoroughly unimaginative songs saved from utter crapness by the odd jump up n' down chorus, the stoooppiddest worshipful student fanbase I've ever seen, and they couldn't have been more offensively twee if they'd dressed up as hobbits..

Jim White doing his "hey, I'm a cowboy!" thing at Dingwalls in Camden. Sounded like an even worse Dire Straits, if that's possible.

I think it was a DJ set. (didn't see many gigs this year)

Luke Slater dropped the ball badly. You can't play a good set if your hiding under the decks looking for records.

Devin Townsend. Funny weird looking guy. Had a sense of humour though. Musically very dull and uninspiring.

Thank god Godflesh were supporting. They were bloody good!
