Sparked off by Pulms' thread about dancing round handbags:

I've realsied that I don't know very much at all about modern reggae music.

Sure, I've got my King Tubby, my Tappa Zukei, my Keith Hudson, my Lee Perry and so on...

But the records that I have were all made between the mid 60's and, at the latest, the early 80's.

I've got a copy of 'Rain Showers' by Sizzla on 12" somewhere, but that's about it.

What do you recommend as a starter for someone who wants to find out more?

I just recently got into some old stuff, maybe you can give me some names. I really like the old Horace Andy stuff. Yes I was suckered in by his work in Massive Attack. Which I hear is working on a new album with Liz. Yay.

Try some stuff on the Greensleeves label - the comp 'Biggest Ragga Dancehall Anthems 2000' is much better than the name suggests, but the Elephant Man's 'Comin For You' is just fantastic - featuring lots of stuff stolen from US rap hits (Dre, Mannie Fresh, DMX, etc.) and great scary vocals.
