First of all, I'm not British, and there are probably things that you all know that i missed. The mod scene was one of them, i only heard about it a couple years ago. At the time I didn't take much notice, and I couldn't really pinpoint what was "mod music". Well, then I went to Glasgow and I found this little club called the 13 note, where the dance floor was an underlit sweaty basment. They were projecting movies and old tv series on the walls, like the Prisoner and Avengers and I danced my ass off cause I had never heard that kind of music. It felt like old spy movies' music with an improved beat. I knew a couple of them but most were total unknown to me. I was hooked. I didn't know what style that was so I made some research and I think it has some relation to "mod music". Particularly, i found some tunes by the Small Faces were pretty similar. Then I discovered The Jam and was hooked. Totally confused, but hooked. It seems The Jam aren't exactly Mod, they were Mod-revivalists. A second wave, encompassing names like the Prisoners, the Chords, Secret Affair and others. This made things worse. I bought a Decca anthology called "the beat scene" thinking this was it. And it wasn't. Too lame, no rythm, no sex. I really don't know if anyone here understands what I want, and where to get it. I can't find any of the artists I mentioned alongside the Jam, I heard a couple of Prisoners tracks and that seemed like "it". Can anyone help me?
In a nutshell: what do you call a track like "own up time" by the Faces, and where can I find more like this?
