Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Heard last night on the radio that the Ramones and the Talking Heads are to be inducted this year. To bad Joey couldn't have made it another year. I'm sure he would to have loved to been there.

Brenda Lee and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, amoung others are also being inducted.

Anyone care to guess who'll sing Joey's lyrics during the little performance? Who would you like to see do it?

Who else is interested in seeing the Talking Heads play together again?

Tom Petty.

I'm not lying, either. Every time I lose faith in classic rock, Tom Petty releases another album.

Has anyone here actually BEEN to the Rock N Roll hall of fame itself?

It seems like such a transcendentally stupid idea to me...

Certainly less weird than the true tidbit buried in this article:

quote:[Rob]Zombie is also helping to organize a tribute album to the Ramones, the punk act that toured with White Zombie six years ago. Zombie is putting it together with Johnny Ramone, who has become a close friend now that Zombie lives in Los Angeles. ''The tentative list of contributors includes Red Hot Chili Peppers and possibly U2 and Metallica. I'll do a song, and so will Green Day and a lot of people. It should be good.''

The mind fucking boggles...

I'm assuming the U2 track would be "I Remember You", which they played at a handful of shows on their last tour... It's really pretty, very nicely done.

Metallica playing a Ramones song seems like a very misguided idea....

No, because I have no plans to go to Cleveland--ever. Dis Microsoft all you want, but the EMP far outshines the measly-ass R'nR Hall of Fame. Bar-none.

I'd guess that it will be Eddie Vedder singing for the Ramones. I know it's a horrifying thought, but they let him sing on the last song they ever performed (which was a cover of the Dave Clark 5's "Any Way You Want It"), and I think the only time Johnny Ramone has played guitar in public since the Ramones split up has been on stage with Pearl Jam (doing a cover of "Thr KKK Took My Baby Away", if I'm not mistaken). I'm pretty sure that Eddie Vedder sang for The Doors when they were inducted, but thankfully I'm not really a Doors fan.

I'd like to see them not rope in some idiot, and just do "Durango 95", or one of the songs Dee Dee sang, like "Wart Hog", but that ain't going to happen.

That Ramones tribute album sounds awful, except for Green Day (note- I'm aware that everyone else here is no doubt too cool to like Green Day, but i don't care). Apparently the Offspring are going to be on there as well, which sucks, but probably not as much as Metallica or RHCP butchering the Ramones.

Aren't Talking Heads all on really bad terms with each other. Maybe the Ramones could just get David Byrne to sing for them, and piss off fans of both bands.

The singer will probably be who ever inducts them. So, what famous person can you think of who's a huge Ramones fan?

Tribute album: Acctually, I bet Green Day will probably do a decent track. The Ramones were the first pop punk band really. Metalica though will deffinetly suck. There is no way they could pull off the hooks.

I just had an inspiration. The perfect person to sing for Joey? Ronni Spector!!! I have never seen a piece on the Ramones that didn't interview Ronnie. Joey had just produced her new record. Phil Spector was probably one of the biggest influences on the band. And it's got a great head fuck factor.

Joan Jett could also be fun, and she would be an obvious choice to induct them.

Talking Heads: It's acctually David against the rest of the band. The rest of them acctually toured not to long ago, as The Heads. And I'm not sure how much bad blood there really is. Isn't it really just David not wanting to do the nostalgia thing? And just wanting to move on with his life? It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Wow! I'm acctually interested to see what happens with the R&R Induction Ceremony. That's new.

Oh, and who doesn't think the reformed Ramones will play I Wanna Be Sedated?

Ronnie Spector!

What a fucking fantastic idea, I Am.

She even covered "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" on a solo album way back in about 1980.

I don't think they'll do "Sedated", though, because it's from the Marky era. They'll go with one from the first three albums.

By God, I love talking about the Ramones.

(edited to fix crap spelling)

completely. it's the evilest, most misguided concept ever and should be bombed. possibly.

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK OOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If those three bands sing Ramones songs, then I'm afraid I may have to re-record their entire respective back catalogues with a faux-french accent and a farting machine, then send them copies off it every single day for the rest of their lives, each time pretending it's a demo from a hip new band, so they'll be forced to play it.

Y'know, I think that's a great idea in and of itself...

"Onn-daaair ze breedge up-taaaahn... *FFFFFFLARRRP*

"Eef yew walk awa', walk awa' *BRRRRAPP* Ah weeeel follow...." *THHHHHPP*

"Ex-eeet laaht... *SPBLORRKKK* Ennnn-taaair naaaaaht..." *PPPPPPPPPARRUUPP*

I can hear it all so clearly in my head, and will, for at least two days, guaranteed.

It's a meme whose time has come.

If you start doing it now, you might scare them out of contributing to the tribute album.

Has anyone heard that other Ramones tribute album which came out on XXX records in about 1991? It sucked, as well.

slightly unrelated, but everyone should read ronnie spector's autobiography. its portrait of phil is brilliant.

Jack, Re: Rizla's idea:

"Y'know, I think that's a great idea in and of itself..."

Bloody yes! The great thing is, it wouldn't take a great deal of skill or technology to do. Just an accent and a whoopee cushion (or someone with a sweaty armpit). I'd like to hear Dutch versions too. Tricky accent, the Dutch.

Do a couple, Riz, and bung 'em on the Fake Bands thread in The Creation (if only to make it look slightly less like I started that thread in order to fiddle with myself in public).
