So. I never listened to brazilian rock bands, always thought they were shit. No. They are shit. The mainstream ones, I mean.
BUT I've been introduced to this rather famous (here) band called Los Hermanos.
And their new record kicks ass in ways so far unknown to man, which was like the best musical surprise here this year. It was, of course, slashed by the critics and the big public, a total failure in what concerns selling.
Now, if any of you out there has a taste for "world music" (heh), I would like to tell you about them.
Better yet, I'd like to recommend a few of their songs - you can get them on audiogalaxy, you probably wouldn't find the album outside of Brazil.
These 4 guys created a mix of rock (think Weezer, Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth) with old 50s carnival songs which is just... fucking CUTE, for God's sake!
I would recommend the following songs:
"Casa Pre-Fabricada" - One of the sweetest, most beautiful songs
"A Flor" - Straightforward rock, great melody
"Sentimental" - Out of words
"Mais Uma Canção" - You're in Brazil, 1950. Carnival is over and your heart is broken.
"Tão Sozinho" - Straightforward hardcore.
Now listen to those and tell me if I'm a softy or what. Opinions, please?
PS.: George Harrison was working on a cover of a song from this band. It was a song called "Anna Julia". I don't know if he finished before he passed away. |
