I was thinking about the use of the Amazon banner on Barbelith and the general practice of commission purchasing on the net through banner links.
Given the general web-fu levels displayed here on the boards and referencing some of the discussions that I have seen in regards to on-line purchasing, I would like to suggest that the new barbelith consider a section or seperate page for such banners.
While I understand that the introduction of marketing and advertising to barbelith would be somewhat detractive from the character and nature of the site, it seems foolish that we shouldn't use what we already do to provide some additional capital support for this place which amounts to a community just like any other. The only additional cost to ourselves would be a few extra seconds.
As part of this proposal I would prefer to see included a referal section that would allow posters to suggest sites that they purchase from and then should there be no significant ethical objections to the propogation of that site and should there be no logistical considerations for Barbelith Administration then the site can be put into use.
Does anyone have any comments on this. |
