Basically this is just a reminder - if you're planning to buy an XBox, then do it through Amazon through Barbelith and then there's another tenner to keep the site running.

If you're not going to buy an X-box, then don't worry about it.

You really should try an ametuer porn site. Everyone here donates a photo of themselves in the nude and you charge $20 for acess to the photos. I bet everyone would pay $20 to see what everyone else really looks like.

Why take the banner down after a few days? I don't know about anybody else here, but usually I'll read about a book or the like and then go to amazon and check out the reviews. So why not leave a link to Amazon up? Maybe not something so flashy and blinky though.

Well the old links on the front page actually used to go to Amazon - there was a UK flag and a US flag. But no one really used them...

I'm not buying an X-Box unless Bill Gates personally comes round and cleans my toenails with his tongue. However, I do approve of the Amazon banners (UK & US) because I buy a lot of stuff through them. I'd rather link through Barbelith than go there direct. Please don't get rid of them.

If I know anyone who does want to get an X-Box, I'll tell them to get it through here.

This was asked before, but got kind of drowned out in the noise. I know that normal links won't provide Barbelith with any funds, so is there any chance that we could be given the correct bit of url to make links to work in this way? I'm sure that everyone would be happy to use it in Spectacle threads.

Most posters include links to the relevant amazon page when talking about books, CDs etc, but doing so is a bit pointless at the moment, as anyone buying items from these links is going to be depriving the site of some cash.

Expressionless is trying to organise a party to fund hir friends volunteering expedition. Maybe we can do the same thing for barbelith. Personally, i cannot donate money through paypal as i dont have a credit card. I also dont buy anything on the web. What can i do?

You know what would be cool? It would be cool if I could build something in like the Amazon pop-up box I used to use (and still should be using) on Plasticbag.org. And get cal to integrate that somehow...

One of my next schemes is to talk to Cal about making Barbelith's profiles accessible in a kind of 'find me a date now' kind of way. Like a good personals site or something. It makes sense, really, that you'd start encouraging a whole room of geeks to make out with each other... Plus it's a good way to shut the board down gradually, as people discover nookie and get bored of the internet...
