Just asking if anyone else plays piano. i taugt myself and i have been playing since i was 12, but since i havn't taken lessons i am stuck on a few things.. like what the hell are double flats? and there are these notes tht look like notes cept they have an X instead of the ball.. uhh help?

A double flat lowers the note a tone, and the x (a double sharp) raises the note a tone.

A note with an x instead of a ball is there to indicate rhythm for something that doesn't have a determined pitch. For instance, if you were going to transcribe a rap song, you'd use those little x-notes (I don't know the technical term) to show where the words fall in the bar, their relationship to the beat.

I don't know why they'd appear in piano music--I've only ever seen them used to indicate purely rhythmic elements: finger snaps, snare drum hits, scratching at guitar strings, spoken word... that sort of thing.
