Mike Patton asked to join INXS!

It's true. They approached him a little while back, I believe. He laughed in their faces, which I think was a horribly missed opportunity to make one album that would really unsettle people. And would be even more unlistenable than Mr. Bungle.

(don't get me wrong... I really quite liked INXS...)

Mike Patton is GOD!

if you think Bungle is unlistenable, his other projects (Fantomas, solo, Tomahawk) will give you cancer. stay far, far away, city boy.

but you might just dig Lovage, though. he duets with the chick from Elysian Fields. SEXY.

Jack... Bungle unlistenable? Shame on you, sah! I quite liked INXS, too, however I have to applaud Patton: they should just pack it the fuck in, right now. They couldn't sell enough tickets on a recent NZ tour (where the then(?)-vocalist, Jon Stevens, comes from) to make it work - you'd think that'd give them the message.

But still, I deny you not to be doing some kind of funky-arse dance when you hear the first couple of bars of "Need You Tonight".

Damn. Sprung.

Me, I want to see Patton fronting Fu Manchu. Now that would be something else (well, something vaguely similar, but you know what I mean).

But Riz, you don't understand! It's not us. It's the devil inside. Devil inside. Ev'ry single one of us - the devil inside!

Actually, that looks surprisingly Lovecraftian. H.P. Hutchence?

Update: if you visit JJJ's Mike Patton J-file page, you can hear him (in RealAudio) talk about INXS' offer.

Looking for a news link, but can't find one at the moment. However, a stack of Fantomas reviews make mention of him speaking about it while onstage, and segueing into INXS tunes while playing. Much like this, actually...

I assure you sir, that devil is not within me! (despite the best efforts of Virgin Radio).

Yes, I know who he is, O shirtless one. And I love Fantomas - that's an entirely different kind of unlistenable. Mr. Bungle, I've never really gotten on with (sorry, Rothkoid).

And I believe it was me old mucker Parliament Of Fools that described 'Need You Tonight' as a 'vampire song'. With it's own little dance, if I recall the video correctly...

I thought the last Bungle album, California, was pretty conventional, and thus pretty "listenable."

The Lovage album gets better with each listen.
