Ah, see I thought this was going to be about gifts we would want to get...

If someone really, really, really loved me, and wanted to put their money where their mouth is, they would get me this box set.

I'm all thumbs on the song recommendations, man. Greed has overcome me!

I Hope I Sell a lot of Records at Christmastime - Princess Superstar. Hilarious, nicely delivered, seasonal sounding.

Silent Night - Low. Gentle and moving. Not at all depressing...

Christmas at the Zoo - The Flaming Lips. Wayne Coyne attempts to free the animals on Christmas Eve, only to get more that he bargained for...

Alan Parsons in a Winter Wonderland - Grandaddy. Extremely silly, but totally in the spirit of things.

The Fairytale of New York - The Pogues. Without a doubt the finest Christmas song ever written, by one of the finest storytellers ever to pen a lyric. Poignant and potent.

Anything from The V/VM Christmas Pudding. Having mentioned this album, let us never speak of it again.

Anything from John Denver and the Muppets' Christmas album. This never fails to move me and get me into a Christmassy mood. Lots of nostalgia.

I want mulled wine now!

The Muppets Christmas Album, Oh yes..

But for a full-on Xmas Xtravaganza, its gotta be Phil Spector's Christmas Gift For You. 13 festive favourites given the Wall of Sound treatment by The Crystals, The Ronnettes (natch), Darlene Love and Bob B. Soxx & The Blue Jeans.

Wow!

And if you haven’t heard Darlene Love’s feverous Stax overload of White Christmas, then I really don’t know why you even pretend to like Christmas at all………..

I hope I get asked to play in the carol service again this year! All those carols, written by drugged up maniacs, seventy three chords in each bar and random time signiatures, silly OTT harmonies and wicked lyrics. Hooray!

I still rate 'Black Snow' by Ten Benson.

The jolly, satanic Christmas cash-in that Black Sabbath never got round to making.

Rhymes 'Christmas morn' with 'the devil has just been born'.

Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight) by The Ramones......THE best christmas song in this world.

"Happy Christmas (War is Over)" by John & Yoko

I second "Father Christmas"

and I add - oh shit, I'm gonna have to think of the name - "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses

DEFINITELY "Christmas In Hollis" by Run DMC

I'm also partial to "Christmas is a time to say I love you" by Billy Squier.

But then, I'm a weirdo...

As a special pre-Yule gift, I found the lyrics to the only holiday song I can stomach. Enjoy.

Father Christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over
We want your bread, so don't make us annoyed

Shit. I have a "cool christmas" cd comp - bunch of indie bands doing, mostly, original christmas songs, but it's at home.

Lemme try something..

(I'm getting punchy, playing CDs on this iMac here in the Mira! offices - they got some cool nortenas music, but it makes me feel like I should be a character in Lone Star.)

Black Snow's great but my fave is the b-side on that single, 'Snowman/Snowgirl'...

"We could live forever in a freezer world..."

There is a record available called christmas rap. It was made around 1987 and features a tinsel-covered shelltoe on the cover. I once lay on a bed for five hours convinced I'd died due to some unexpectedly strong mushrooms while this monstrosity played on repeat. Someone need only sing "Dana dane is coming to town" at me or any of the other two people who were there for us to flee the room screaming. The fourth person who took the shrooms sat naked on a toilet for the duration so he escaped unharmed.

Let this be a warning, children, christmas music can be dangerous...

Just found this thing:

Christmas on Cylinders.

It's wax cylinder recordings of Christmas songs. All about 100 years old.
