Comic artists make obscure album. Maybe.

So, there I was in the local goodwill store, stocking up on the latest winter fashions, when I come across a CD by Dave McKean and Jon J Muth from 1993, called "Adrift and Salient". It's nice in a kind of ambient listen-to-without-really-listening way, but I have no idea what the deal is about it. Was this a one off, or are these two gentlemen leftfield popstars in their spare time? Anyone have any idea?

Wow. just did a quick search and you're right. Crazy. I guess McKean helped out musicwise on a Gaiman disc once, and I'm fairly sure Muth did some work on the M flexidiscs, so I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise.

McKean's bio never fails to mention that he's a serious jazz pianist (as if you couldn't tell from reading Cages) and has composed several soundtracks for short films.

Yes, Muth did some musical work on the flexidisks that were bound with M. I believe he was credited as arranger.

There is also, supposedly, a limited hardbound collection of his old Epic Magazine feature "Mythology of an Abandoned City" (Christ, what a wanky title) that includes a full CD of his stuff by way of a soundtrack.

I know there was someone around here that was collecting songs about comic characters but I think that thread is long gone now (so I dug up this one). Anyway, I just found a song by Last Emperor called Secret Wars Part 1 (from The Legend of Bigfoot 12"). It asks What if I had the, power to gather, all of my favorite emcees
With the illest comic book characters, and they became arch enemies?

Love it. Full lyrics here.

That was me.
Found it a few weeks ago.
Thanks, though.
