| I've just had my first taste of Ween today, after slurping up some Quebec from Soulseek. It's utterly flush--all I'd ever heard before was Pod...and only remembered "The Stallion." The new songs are great. They've got 70s rock, heavy metal ballads, rampant Ummagummery, farting synths, Motown-ish R&B, Sgt. Pepperisms, th' indie sound, and a light finish of high-flying tongue-in-cheek fun all blended together. How do they make it all work? I have no idea, but Quebec reminds me of Zappa & the Mothers at their best...if they were better. |
