It's an odd feeling - but on the whole a good, smug one - when a boring, obsolete quite-big-in-the-mid'90s band release one last death or glory album, watch as it sells 22 copies and immediately split up (or, in the case of solo artists 'call it a day').

Recent victims include:

Catatonia

Cast

Terrorvision

Bernard Butler

But, who's going to be next?

Reef?

Gene?

Oceon Colour Scene? (oh, if only)

The Bluetones? (actually I've always had a softspot for them)

Dodgy? (2nd favourites, I think)

Echobelly? (still going, ridiculously)

The Levellers? (please, god, please!)

or, current favourites: Garbage?

please your bets now!

Catatonia were frequently brilliant, you appalling young whippersnapper. I'm going to go and cry now.

try 'occasionally'.

As in about twice

(actually, I used to love Terrorvison too, but for their last two records they deserve nothing but hurt)

I hope Ocean Colour Scene will be next. But my money's on Echobelly.

There was much rejoicing the day Skunkanansie kicked the bucket.

If Shed7 have not split they fucking well should have.
I'll take an outside bet on the Charlatans, who suddenly realise they are not vey good, and hide under the singer blokes new floppy beret, for evermore.

How exactly is Bernard Butler breaking up with himself/'calling it a day'... that just makes no sense. He's saying he's never going to do music again?

Who's ever fully resigned (as opposed to being sidelined, a la Syd Barrett) from music other than maybe Captain Beefheart?

I'm off to see Terrorvision Next Week - the last album's actually quite good, it take's a few listens but I really like it.

Who's next? My money's on Gene.

Although the current incarnation of Dodgy doesn't do justice to their old stuff.......

Well as I recall he decided to give up making appallingly shit muso solo albums and hasn't been heard of since.

Which is a shame, cos he was pretty cool when he was in Suede, but the solo stuff - AARRGGHHH, god it was bad..

Didn't Gene split up 2 years ago?

I can well imagine Bernard Butler splitting up with himself due to musical differences, his musics a load of wank on his own, but with other people (Suede or McAlmont) it's a thing of beauty.

No. Their new single comes out soon. Naturally, it sounds just the same as all their old ones. John Peel seems to like them, maddeningly.

Duuuur..

How the fuck did I not think to suggest Elastica would split up soon?

Because I'd be right, you know.

Yeah, DOH!

How did we miss such as obvious contender?
