Music Barbelith turned you on to

Every once in awhile we have the same ol' same ol' thread wherein everyone crows about whatever they're listening to right now. I imagine most of us read it and go, "Ah, interesting. Yawn." And then we go on listening to what we like and post about how everyone else should, too. But I could be dead wrong about this...That's why I'm asking what music you've been turned on to as a direct result of reading about it here?

Speaking for myself, I'm really enjoying this band called Nebula. I believe they were mentioned in one of those "Things I Hate To Admit I Like" threads. Something about an 8 minute guitar jam in a song about space truckers in an asteroid swarm. I read that and said, "Damn, that sounds so stupid, it HAS to be good!" And it is, in a wonderfully stupid kind of way, although I'm not sure if the song is really about space truckers.

So what have you discovered via Barbelith?

Christ, I've discovered a ridiculous amount of music via Barbelith (or in part via Barbelith - if I see a positive review of something and it's also been mentioned here, my interest will be sparked). Of course, it's always that little bit more effective when someone sends you a compilation tape with things on, which might explain a lot...

Dirty Three, Magnetic Fields, Le Tigre, Saul Williams, Cat Power, The Donnas, Autechre, Lift To Experience... these are just the (mostly recent) ones that spring to mind off the top of my head. Plenty more.

I think it was me who said that.

Nebula's existence is totally unjustifiable (is that a word?), but in a very profound sense, they ROCK.

I've been turned on to many good things by Barbelith mixtapes .. I'm too tired to list them all though.

I. Have had. The. Fucking. Hatt-Baby. Going. Thru. My. Head. For. MONTHS.

You bastards made me sing in Macedonian! At inappropriate moments!

I ought to sue your Grant-Morrison-stalking, comic-obsessing, useless-link-posting arses for all they're worth. But since everyone here is either out of a job or would try and pay me in Reticulan luncheon vouchers, I'm posting That Link again now.

SUFFER!!!!

Funny I acctually grabbed some Old 97's this very morning, and am listening to them right now. Thanks Kali.

Um, it's the first day back after a three day weekend, and I've only had one cup of coffee. I CAN'T THINK!!!

Oh, and Tindersticks. Mmmmm, yummy.

Dillinger Escape Plan
Screeching Weasel

Bogdan Raczynski
..and last but not least, Sonic Youth

That would be me.

"Manifestin organisational skillz cuz organisational skillz kill more devils than bullets..."

Sadly my organisational skillz are a bit rubbish, hence I still owe loads of mixtapes to people...

Johnny Mother:

Leatherstrip (esp. Serenade For The Dead which is different from the rest of their stuff, but not to be missed. Think gothic-industrial-orchestral-cathedral music. The rest of their music is like a gothier Frontline Assembly.)

also Velvet Acid Christ.

On the dancier technoier side:

EBN (or Emergency Broadcast Network) - sort of hip-hoppy techno, all the lyrics (and much of the music) consists of Burroughs-like audio cut-ups from TV.

Orbital (esp. Snivelization and In-sides)Trippy, essential techno.

Plastikman - trancy minimal

Coil is also very good, but hard to describe. It ranges from creepy to bizarre.
sometimes very intricate, sometimes minimal, usually weird. Their best album (that I've heard) is Love's Secret Domain - it's also the most coherent one (that I've heard). The easiest ones to find seem to be the Unnatural History compilations (1-3), which are sort of B-sides comps.

John Spencer Blues Explosion

and Grant sent me this awesome tape with "Southern Girls" on it...prolly the alltime best Cheap Trick song. I also got to finally hear Man or Astroman, although I wasn't really impressed.
