Well, I just spent an enormous amount of money on Bjork tickets, as she'll be playing in Toronto with orchestra and choir and the whole bit. $80 CDN per ticket, and those aren't even the top-ticket prices, which would probably have run $105 after tax and ticketbastard.

Is this just too much? What's going on? I paid $80 to see Tom Waits, but it really was worth every penny. So much so that I paid the same in US currency and went to New York to see him again, and then paid up once more in Paris. I have no qualms, somehow, about paying that much for a show that really was amazing. On the other hand, Sigur Ros is playing for $30, which is what I saw U2 and REM for five years ago. I saw Bowie in 97 for $45.

Does anyone else find the inflation rather sudden? Is it just the time of year? Are these shows actually worth the ticket price? And if I do pay $80 for a show, does that make me more likely to enjoy the show - because I've already had to convince myself it's worth the money?

Ticket prices have been outrageous for the longest time here in NYC. Clubs like Irving Plaza and Bowery Ballroom have no qualms about charging $30, $35 per ticket for certian types of acts. Places like Town Hall are $40 and up.

I haven't gone to an arena show in the longest time, because it really isn't worth the money (especially if it sells out and you have to scalp. ) I missed out on the Roxy Music reunion because I couldn't afford the ticket. It's gotten to the point where I only see local acts now.

Supposedly the price hike is to pay the increasing costs of lighting, music techs, catering, industry hangabouts, et al, but I think it's just music industry gouging.

I had to pay £36 for a nick cave ticket.

And with gigs coming up from Mogwai, Mercury Rev, Spirtulized and Richy Hawtain I'm going to be very skint.

Paid £23 quid for a Wonderstuff, Terrorvision, New Model Army, Chameleons ticket for this weekend. Am Well Chuffed.

Spiritualised are playing Manchester Academy for £13. Depeche Mode are £21 at the Arena. Not too keen on Arena stuff. Collective Soul are playing too. Woo Hoo.

Um. Ticket prices for the decent Venues average between 8 and 12 quid... so it's not to bad. It's places like the Apollo and the Arena that seem to have extortinate prices - they can fit more people in so obviously they've got to charge more money...

Manchester's ticket prices are reasonable. I paid 2 quid to see Kat Bjelland's new band... bargain eh?

hmmm, know what you mean.

I've just paid £40 I don't have for tix to the same Bjork tour, and while I am very excited about it, part of me is wondering if I'm insane. and again they're not even the top price tickets, which were going for £65!! For a couple of hours entertainment.

I'll tell you after the gig whether it was worth it, but if i think of it in strict vfm terms it's going to have to be the best thing in the world ever.

I was so outraged by ticket prices that I did a web search to see if I was the "Lone Ranger" on this. I found this site. OK, here goes...

I just paid $45 USD to see Deep Purple in San Francisco. It was worth it (good, long set) but I thought that was pretty steep (years ago, I saw Judas Priest and Led Zeppelin together for much less).

But (you'd better sit down) I noticed David Bowie was coming to my area and said "hey, I've never seen Bowie, that would be cool" and I checked ticket prices. About $150 USD to get in the door and $750 USD for the best seats! What???!!! So, you wanna talk outrageous. Mr. Bowie, my goodness! That defines the word, OUTRAGEOUS. I guess that will keep out the riff-raff! :-)

And people will pay the better part of $1,000 for good seats to a David Bowie concert in the United States of America?

I won't.

Cheers

I paid 30 quid to see Bjork last year. With her being too short and me being too short I didn't see much at all, but I did see enough to do my own rendition of one of her dances. My friends thought that was worth the price of admission on it's own, so all was well.

That's odd about the Bowie prices. I have tickets to see him in two weeks, but they only cost about $40.. still expensive, but ouch.
