Thoughts on this? How much of its appeal (and I think it has an appeal) is 'music' and how much 'television'? Is it an updated 'Opportunity Knocks'? Is it televisual child abuse?

Fuck integrity. Pop Idol is just atrociously boring. If it achieved nothing else, Popstars at least got a lot of attention for what it was doing - deconstructing the Pop myth, getting a lot of music snobs very upset.

The only time Pop Idol comes up in conversation is when someone mentions the judges.
