anyone heard of these guys? I dig em and am going to see them on dec 2nd

excerpt from an online review:
quote:Lyrically, Praise The Fallen is sort of a concept album taking place in the year 2012, looking back at the crumbled societies of the world. It acts as sort of a motivational document to unite people after all the problems and rise back up as one nation (hence the title). While the group does know how to kick out some sweet beats and excellent lyrics, they also know the meaning of restraint. The album leads into things slowly on the opening track "Chosen," with spoken word vocals over drifting, ambient sounds. The album ramps up slowly in terms of speed until taking off with the dark trance sounds of "Procession."

hmmm, 2012 eh....

A few years late but here's your response-
I saw them Saturday and they are now officially my favorite band of all time for the next month. I had a blast, got my Napoleon on like it hasn't been got in ages! Two encores!

VNV is a sorta pop industrial/electronica/dance outfit. I get the feeling from some of the singer's comments at the show that some of their songs have worn out their welcome on the Eastern end of the Atlantic Ocean, but I think they're a little underplayed over here in the States. I can't believe I only heard of these guys six months ago! I must be even further out of the Industrial loop than I thought.

I can't comment on the 2012 syncronicity (I know it has something to do with Barbelith's pet conspiracy theorists or something) but Praise the Fallen is a fantastic album. In a genre that has become increasingly cookie-cutter, the album veers from relentless beats to gentle hums and melodies to explosive energy. Praise the Fallen has become my album of choice for driving.

I always though they would be much better if they got rid of the singer. Why do almost all coldwave/techno goth bands have to sing in a flat distorted monotone?
Is it a rule?
The music is ace though.

Apparently. Have just listened to Seabound and its more of the same; dreary and not in a good way.

I'm not sure how they are 'now' as I haven't heard the latest album but I love Praise the Fallen but thought Futureperfect was a bit ho-hum. Some really good stuff, but a lot of average-ness. Still VNV are always worth the price of a gig ticket.

If you like Praise the Fallen though, can I recommend Combichrist's 'Everyone Hates You'. They've taken all the good bits of VNV, Icon of Coil etc and left the rest in the bins for Seabound to monotone their way through.

VNV Nation are great indeed. The cool thing about their shows, is the lead singer, Ronan, usually remarks to the crowd something of "dance, people. stop looking sad"
A few years back, at a show he actually said... "I promise if you smile it won't crack your make up".
I have to admit I am not a fan of the new album, because almost half of it is instrumental, and part of the reason I like VNV nation is ronan's voice. However, "chrome" is such an awesome track, and Its prolly my favorite VNV song now, in addition to past tracks like "solitary", "forsaken", and "epicentre".
"Empires" is a great album as well if you're lookin for something to start off with.
