Got paid yesterday and bought a few tickets to see some live bands over the next few month. They are:

Mark Lanagan - with Masters of Reality and what seems like all of Queens of the Stone Age as well.

Drugstore - really great fun live, only have the singles, but their support bands have always been excellent.

Medication - Whitfield Crane (ex-Ugly Kid Joe/Life of Agony singer). Curious about this one - loved Ugly Kid Joe and Life of Agony (although I never heard a whitfield crane song!). Ho hum.

Still to buy Tickets for Tori Amos and The Pogues!

Oh A.R.E. Weapons are playing on Monday anyone know if they're worth seeing?

Anyone else seeing any bands soon?

They're worth seeing if you like the idea of scruffy, hobo-like men ineptly playing atonal synth-pop songs about fighting.

And I do.

In coming weeks, I shall hopefully be stepping out for The Handsome Family, Smog and Mogwai..

I'm off to see M fucking O fucking P on saturday, at stratford rex. Crack-pipes in the corner and stabbings in the queue. You may not be hearing from me again. Adam F is the support act, but I somehow doubt he brought LL Cool J and Redman along with him, so I'm not quite sure what the point is...

The Alkaholiks are in town next sunday as well, so may pop down to that one too.

ONLY NICE THINGS
14:46 / 31.10.01
Weatherall and Ladytron on the 14th, Pulp on the 28th.

The Return Of Rothkoid
16:50 / 31.10.01
Tessa Ware tomorrow, Diafina Krina next Monday (?), Rammstein in December and hopefully, John Zorn in March. Might get out for Bonnie Prince Billy, too. And others. Not sure. There's a possibility of buggering off to Amsterdam to see The Necks on the 16th - but that very much depends on funds and favours.

Bad experience last night with Ugly Duckling. I hate their records but thought they might be quite fun live. No such luck.

weirdest thing was, some sort of hip hop moshpit started up with a bunch of really big beefy guys chucking themselves around the dancefloor and spilling everyone's drinks. I hope this isn't going to get to be a regular thing.

But the 'liks, pretty much a definite if I can muster the entrance fee...

Went to see The Hives recently. It was £4, then suspciously free... then when we got there The Hives were a no show, while suspiciously still being advertised everywhere....

Hm. Bastards. I hate the Charlotte.

The Hives were s'posed to play in Leicester?!?!

God, I'm glad they cancelled, I'd be banging my head on the wall for hours if I found out I'd missed them..

..for about 3 days last year, they were SUPPOSED to have And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead playing at the Charlotte, I mean how cool would that have been? Cancelled when they got famous, obviously..

I was actually gonna PM you and tell you - but (don't ask why, I can't work it out either) I'd mysteriously forgotten who the Hives were - and only had my friend's word for it.

Be glad I didn't tell you at such short notice, it was one of the most tedious and depressing nights ever... as we got there, and realised the Hives were not... (I mean, it was free no less - what were we expecting?)

However the depression didn't hit me 'till a couple days later, when I found a couple if Hives tracks and suddenly remembered...

Be glad you weren't set up for the dissapointment! (And a night milling around in McDonalds.... )

Just went to see Tool and Tricky last night (took the 'step'-son and his friend... heh heh... corrupting the 13 year olds).

Excellent performances by both of them.

Some cool imagery and ritual elements to Tool's performance that people could piggy back on to achieve slight altered states.

The sheep like cries of 'Maynard, you fucking ROCK!' kept breaking the mood though.

I just saw Cat Power on Friday night.
It was a very weird show - she finished maybe five songs from beginning to end, the rest she just stopped halfway through to tune, or to ask them to take her voice out of the monitors, or to bring the houselights up and the spot on her down. Great venue. Great opening act. Utterly crazy non-performance.
She said she had a cold.
She forgot words to songs after the first line. She did an air-piano verson of "Great Balls of Fire," and talked about how she wished they had one of those Yamaha electric pianos that play themselves, so she could look like she was playing.
Utterly bizarre.

She still haunts me, though.

And is currently playing a couple weeks in Brazil.....

just be grateful that Chan even showed up, much less played five (FIVE!) full songs. that seems like a relatively professional show for *her*.

anyway, I'm seeing Preston School Of Industry (w/ The Shins) on Friday night, and next Friday I'm seeing Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks. So it's the two halves of my all-time favorite band spread over two weeks...

I'm seeing The Fall at the end of the month, and I don't know if I'm seeing anymore shows for the rest of the year, most folks don't tour much in December.

I'm hoping Fugazi will be coming by soon, though.

Hmm.

MOP on saturday was a total letdown. About a one quarter capacity crowd, all of 'em moody stratford rude boy types. MOP came on an hour late, and got really pissed off at the lack of crowd response. Nearly erupted into a riot a couple of times. They were good, but it's difficult to appreciate what someone does when there is just zero atmosphere. Particularly when you've spent hours listening to substandard mc posses from brixton rant incoherently over very average Karl Hinds-lite beats.

O'course the entire place still lifted about 6 feet in the air when they played 'Ante Up'. And they also did 'How bout some hardcore' which was a real treat for us longtime fans.

But I'm very glad I didn't have to pay to get in.

hrmph. i tried to see the Preston School/Shins show in seattle but it was sooold out (the Shins are pretty popular here)

the last time i saw ms. marshall she finished all but two of the songs in her hour and a half long set. mostly covers but awe inspiring none the less.

Stereo Total is one of the best live acts EVER, btw... danced all night

sure, if you like that sorta thing. I saw Stereo Total on a bill with Solex and the Rondelles about two years ago, and I think both of them blew Stereo Total off of the stage. But that may have something to do with me liking those two bands and kinda thinking that Stereo Total are annoying and twee...
