inspired by the conspiracy thread---what songs can you read way to much into?

Gorrilaz--Clint Eastwood--about human evolution and the battle against the outer church(or something similar).

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds--Drugs

and so on---any theories?

If I hear another long-winded explanation of "American Pie" I'll kill someone. I'm sure there's something to the song, but that seems to have over-ridden the song itself.

Grrr.

Zoom.

i HATE when the meaning of a song SOMEHOW renders a song COOL even if it SUX that's worce than people likin' a song that suck just cuz the video rocks...

it've always thought that the They Might Be Giants song Fingertips was about masterbation and pregnacy scares

I want to know what a bag of sunshine is. I've narrowed it down to:

1) glue sniffing
2) the partaking of nitrous oxide (not useless for long/high wears opff in minutes)
3) a person - bag is them, sunshine is yay thoughts.

or, it could be somethubg way deeper.

A good song to mention is Particle Man, by They Might Be Giants, which is acknowleged to be about nothing, but has various meanings ascribed to the men in the song - Universe Man (God), Triangle Man (gay?), etc.

Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench.

When I first heard it I thought it was a clever political allegory about the Clinton administration..

..then i read the lyrics sheet and discovered it was actually about nothing at all. Oh well.

Pavement - Grounded

Is it about ineffectiveness of field medics during World War One?

Probably not.

Ramones - 53rd and 3rd

Is this really the tale of a brutally homophobic ex-soldier forced into prostitution who stabs one of his clients to death in order to re-assert his masculinity?

I bloody well hope not.

A friend of mine who is in a band called Squeaky (who sound a little Pavementy, come to think about it) just wrote a song from the point of view of a field of corn.

Apparently he was driving through experimental fields in Ohio or somewhere and was thinking, "Geez, these poor fields have all these genetically altered seeds growing in them. They probably got no idea what's going on any more."

So, if this can happen, I figure any song origin story can stick.

I really honestly thought monkey wrench was about fagbashing, now he keeps screaming 'one in ten'

but then - 'not gonna be your monkey wrench'?

You see, I liked to think that '1 in 10' was refering to the % of people who work for the government in some way, and ol' Dave doesn't want to, hense the title and chorus. And then he (in my head at least) goes on to sing:

"adolescent president,
what do you do when all your enemies are French?"
