i just saw bully and i was really amazed. the kids in it are incredible, there's all this subtle character development and realizations and it all just gets more and more horrible, the cinematographer is a genius the way he has these kinetic, rotating shots that make you feel nauseous.
it is much more complex than kids, much more mysterious. i kept on feeling like i didn't understand what kind of film it was, or how exactly to watch it. but whereas the writing in kids was an up to the second frantic poetry, the dialogue in bully is this vapid lanscape, accutrately reflecting the mind's of the people speaking. if in kids, all the characters learned how to talk from rap, in bully, all the character learned how to talk from watching daytime television.
clark's second film, another day in paradise, is also amazing and beautiful, a junkies on the road... to hell type. |
