Anybody watching University Challenge. See the lad called Pitcher sitting on the left for Somerville College, Oxford. That is the kind of person I aspire to be. He has just so got the look and the attitude. I think I fancy him.
Erm anyway, anyone else enjoying this?

Well he got 'Woody Allen', which I'd been screaming at the TV as soon as the clarinet started up...

I love University Challenge. It's great television, and it makes me feel smug when I get a question right, as I'm universally challenged.

It's also given me a wonderful catchphrase to use on the slow-moving, in 'Come on!'

Come on did you see him clinch the game with a last second winner. What a hero. He is the best person I have ever seen.

did anyone else see the incident when paxman asks 'what does this depict?', about the national trust logo, and one of the contestants says 'an oak leaf', paxman says something along the lines of 'no the national trust', then the girl comes back with 'you asked what it depicted, not what it represented', and proceeded to argue her point, i think it's the only time i've seen a contestant argue back to paxman

I love it. Not for Paxman, or pretty female contestants, but simply because it's the best, most serious (in a sense of being "proper", not of being dull) quiz on tv.

Failed to get on last year. Fingers xd this year...

And they edit it a lot... people do often answer back, but it's usually cut out. Similarly, they often reshoot the final crucial answer just to get the feeling of tension accurate...

I wonder how I could go about contacting Pitcher. I wonder if he has a fan club.

I love this show, simply because the captain of Somerville college, Oxford looks like he was drawn by Frank Quietly. In fact, he looks just like Cyclops.

Seriously. He's got the eyes, the slapable forehead and the nose that disappears in the middle and sticks out a bit at the end. It's fucking uncanny.

Deifelen - check your private messages. And then give me a bell.

And do it this time...

Goodness me. I just bumped into Pitcher in the street. Seriously. Wow. Not just Pitcher the whole Somerville college team.
I was just sauntering along to my gym and there they were. They must have been filming at the BBC building. I spotted this lad and I thought he reminded me of the great Pitcher. He had a geekly waddle walk just like I imagined Pitcher would have. His hair was tousled and he was wearing a geek-chic anorak. Exactly like my new hero Pitcher.
Then I looked at his companions. They looked familiair as well. Then it hit me. This was Pitcher. This was the Somerville college team. Trotting through central Manchester looking like the A-team but with backpacks for lunch. Now was my chance. I could meet my hero. Meet Pitcher. The uber-ultra-super-geek. The coolest person I have seen in ages.
To actually meet him would probably have spoiled it though. So I didn't do anything. I walked behind them as they were going the same way as me. I sighed as Pitcher waddled along, trailing slightly behind the others sometimes rushing to catch them up. The picture of absent minded, effortless cool.

Wow, I had the chance to speak to Pitcher and I didn't take it.

Wow.

Yeah, I know it is sooo freaky. You post a couple messages about the coolest guy in the world and then you bump into him in the street. Incroyable!

...oh, maybe that isn't what you mean...

You must be so proud... He's a clever bugger, Pitcher. Not as clever as Sirola though! Behemoth! Room with a View! Picaresque! What scarily compendious brains.

I quite liked Kilfedder, the blinking tree frog from Imperial, myself.

Sirola, pah! See the way they all deferred to the great man. If he said "I don't know" that was it, no point in going in, just pass the question. He was the engine behind the victory.
I know what you mean about Kilfedder. He had a certain je ne sais quoi, but lets face it he was no Pitcher....
