Are they really making a show about Giles and the Watchers? Have any of you heard about this? What's it going to be called? What's the premise? Where can I get info? (This question would probably answer my first two questios.) How is Giles (who's pretty cool, but...) going to carry a whole show? Ok ok, I'll stop with the questions now.

answers please

As far as I know they're making a show. I read somewhere it was going to be called "The Watcher", or "Ripper". It's been said the first episode has been recorded and its focus will be more on solving mysteries and the like.

There was an interview with Head the other week in Time Out, which said it was to be called ‘Ripper’, and that Joss W had written the pilot. Apparently they’re trying to sort out co-funding with the BBC – which is quite tolerant, given the typically contemptuous schedule-bouncing treatment that Buffy’s been given by that organisation…

So it's being called "Ripper"? I haven't been paying much attention to it because I get a feeling we either won't get it here in America, or if we do it won't last long. I just don't know if the majority of people are going to want to watch the adventures of some stodgy old british man, even if there are demons and other things that go bump in the night.

Oh, I dunno – after all, The Equalizer was popular in the US for a number of years…

One really hot stodgy old British man... *ahem* sorry.

Is it supposed to be a full series? I got the impression that it was gonna be a mini-series. If it's a miniseries, I could see us getting it in the US, if it's not, well, who the hell knows.

Maybe if they did a lot of flashbacks to his younger "ripper" days.

I don't know much about Giles' ripper days since when that was mentioned I was watching wrestling trying to figure out why everybody liked it so much. I just started watching Buffy again when the 2 part season finale was shown. All I know is that Giles needs a love interest in his new show. When it seemed like there was something between him and Ms. Calender I was like, "Yes! There is a chance that shy introverted types can go out with attractive women". Of course I then remebered it was a TV show. Hell, they can make his love interest some big bad evil demon bent on destroying mankind if they want to. The one thing I hope they don't do is bring in a bunch of people like Buffy did, I think a small cast such as Angel's would work better.

Not sure about a "love interest" as such, but they deffo need a strong female character in this, preferably played by someone around Anthony Stuart Head's own age. Picture an attractive, slightly older woman and plenty of "are they, aren't they" banter; a sort of Avengers-y vibe.

I was just trying to save time since it always seems that the strong female co-star ends up being the love interest.

Giles seems to get plenty of tail on Buffy, without there being a major love interest as a plot element. I rather like that, so everything doesn't have to be a romantic drama but characters are still getting laid.

Not on the X-files.

In an interview somewhere, Marti Noxon said Ripper is probably going to be pushed back another year, because of Whedon's new sci-fi series....

too many plates in the air....
