....but never, ever watch?

Late at night, watching The Good Life for the umpteenth time. Have suddenly realised that there are certain films in My collection that I really love but never watch.

They are:

LEAVING LAS VEGAS

Beautiful film, pure poetry, superb acting......depressing as hell.

THE THIRD MAN

Black and white beauty from the golden era. Superb performance by Orson Wells. Keeps you guessing right till the end...........well its a bit dull isnt it?

REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE

The first five minutes with Dean in the gutter playing with the toy monkey is one of my favourite visual compositions in the history of cinema........but bloody teenagers wingeing about their parents for christs sake.

THE GREAT ESCAPE

Steve McQueen, James Donald, James Garner, Donald Pleasance, Charles Bronson, Gordon Jackson and James Coburn. You just cant argue with a cast like that plus its a classic and its absolutely superb.......this buggers 3 hours long....sod that!!!

Anyone else?

Zulu - A bunch of welshmen, plus Michael Caine ('Stop throwing those bloody spears') defend the fag end of the british empire against native horders with rifles and a verse of 'Men of Harlech'.

More later.

Warrington: essentially, your beefs with these films are length and boredom. Perhaps this thread would be better served as an examination of the changing state of what's considered "classic" and the sort of amounts of spare-time that people have today. Is the changing nature of modern life - short attention-spans and the feeling of reduced free-time - changing the sort of films that we make time for?

I just feel that might be a bit meatier than another multi-page list thread. There's problems with particular films that stop people watching them repeatedly, no matter how good they are - but is this because the audience for them is changing?
