Remembered I saw an ad for this when I saw LoTR and my god its a Tom Cruise film that actually looks interesting and different, haven't seen many of those. Eyes Wide Shut was the last one of his that I saw.

Anyone seen it in the States care to give a review?

The trailer managed to hook me by going from a crap romance film to something out of a Phillip K Dick novel. Definately made me interested, just hope that wasn't the best parts of the film.

Hey Al --

I loved it.

This movie sucker punched me - which I give credit to the marketing machine behind this flick -- when it first came out over here, there wasn't even a hint of PKD in the commercials - so I went in expecting an erotic thriller and instead got a mindfuck movie (my favorite genre). The plot kept me guessing and I didn't see the twist end coming at all - which is extremely rare ...)

It made my top five movie list for 2001. Go see it.

Although if you know it is a twist movie going in, the impact will be lessened some -- because I thought it was an erotic thriller I was looking for a logical explanation for what was going on and because I couldn't find any, the flick hooked me.

I was expecting crap and got a gem. Who knew - I totally didn't expect it from Tom Cruise.

Can someone just give me the basic plot, because I wasn't sure what it was from the trailer, which made it look like three random storys intersecting.
Cruise crashes in the car of the woman he's cheating on his wife with, only for her body to disappear, him to be blamed for the murder and them someone points out the world isn't real? Or is it just your bog-standard murder-mystery?

Whatever happened to anticpation eh? :-)
If someone does post the plot please use spoiler space as I'm quite looking forward to it now and don't want to hear anymore.
What the hell consider me warned and I'll just go see the film

I loved it Vanilla Sky as well. I actually went into it expecting a solid mindfuck movie, and that's exactly what I got. And, even more miraculously, the romantic elements are well-done and crucial, as opposed to tacked-on and obligatory.

A lot of critics on this side of the pond haven't shared my enthusiasm, though. I can certainly understand why some people wouldn't care for it. I think you have to enjoy the journey as much as (if not more than) the payoff to really enjoy this film.

Anyway, I thought all involved did a great job in this movie, and I really enjoyed myself. Definitely a movie I'll watch again sometime (not right now, though; maybe in a year or so).

Hey, invisible_al. If you do a search for "Vanilla Sky" in Film, TV & Theatre, you will find that VS has already been discussed quite a bit. You might find some stuff there that interests you.
And, yes, once again, Vanilla Sky was one of my favorite movies of last year.
