I got this far:

quote:He looks up at a monitor mounted over the controls. ADRIAN VEIDT,
blond scientific wizard, answers pensively from Watchmen HQ

and refuse to go any further.

Watchmen HQ... Jebus fuck.

If you hated that, don't read to the end.

Not a clacking-beaked "alien" in sight.

But there is a preposterous dimension-hopping time-travel explanation. Well, saves on special effects, I suppose.

Good lord.

Why on earth would anyone do something like that?

Do they not realize that it's not the characters that people care about in the case of the Watchmen, it's Alan Moore's plot, the storyline? So why fuck with the chief selling point of the property? If it's 'unfilmable', then don't fucking do it... it's that simple.

But making a film that would alienate all the people who would want to like it, and then alienate all other audiences ... that's just a waste of time and money, right?

Wow. A Watchmen Elseworlds...

Is this the one Terry Gilliam was supposed to direct about 10 years ago?

Why not follow the Peter Jackson way? instead of doing 1 bad movie, why not do a miniseries of 12 faithfully adapted 1-hr episodes?

Hmm. Sounds really unsellable.

Nah. Let's just stay with the comic book...

"Christ almighty, it's the goddamned Watchmen!"

Nearly as bad as;

"Yes, we'd love to do a movie of Neverwhere, but could you rewrite it so it's going on in New York?"

Only read the first few pages so far, but I've read enough to hope that the terrorist standoff part at the beginning is enough to make Hollywood shitcan this can o' shit.
"From Hell", "Watchmen"... surely someone can do a decent Moore movie? Maybe not... (I kind of imagine Halo Jones as a futuristic soap...)

I managed to get this far:

quote:RORSCHACH
Hiya, pardner. Long time no see.

This is worse than Nic Cage as Constantine. I didn't think that that would be possible, but it is. Jesus fuck!

Where's the coat hanger when you need it? This travesty should have been aborted at the title.

Is there any reason Moore isnt writting the script?

The Natural Way
06:33 / 22.01.02
Yes, because he doesn't want it turned into a film.

This is probably a 1st generation script. It might get much, much worse.

Having scanned that script, I will now gouge out my brain in grief.
Has anyone noticed that Rorschach has been turned into a caricature of Wolverine?

Fear not, this script is not the one that they are talking about making a movie about. This is one of the frist attempts.

The bad news is that the new script is to be written and directed by David Goyer. The guy who wrote blade.
*shiver*
It's to be his debut as a director.

"Dr Manhattan. My god - YOU'RE A VAMPIRE!!!"

"Ah, yes, but no normal vampire...for I can walk in the light!"

Dr Manhattan pulls the curtain down. The light hits his body and he explodes.

Ah, I can see it now...

Isn't he also one of the writers on JSA? mmm...

anyway let's hope this screenplay never sees the light of day. That ending is so completely crap, laughably bad and so not in keeping with what Mr Moore gave us that it really will taint the book if its ever made...

Not this old fossil again. I can remember reading this Sam Hamm script and being so disappointed at that ending. Then Watchmen became the unfilmable film and everything went very quiet....

Alternatively, I'm highly optimistical about plans for the new version. I'd agree that the literary devices of Under The Hood and Tales From The Black Freighter are totally unnecessary for a film version (hey - they're literary devices after all) and that the core story could easily be boiled down into a 2 hour film.

At the same time, I'd be surprised if anyone had the kajangas to take on a film project that features NYC taking a pounding in the aftermath of the WTC incident....
