Lynch for President.
Looks like Cannes loves Lynch again this year - he's been named president of this year's jury. Not bad for they guy - this makes it three for four (as far as I know). The failure was Fire Walk With Me, which was reviled in it's Cannes outing, but Wild At Heart (shown there as Sailor and Lula, I think) and Mulholland both did quite well.

Nice. USA Today are (though their link on the main-page of today/yesterday's edition doesn't work) picking Mulholland Drive as the most likely to scoop Oscars this year. Or something. Does this seem to be likely to anyone else, or is it just wishful thinking?

In other news: The Guardian ran a profile of Lynch on the weekend. Readable here. Nothing new, but was a fair chunk of space dedicated to th'man...

I doubt Lynch will EVER get an Oscar. So there's no use waiting/hoping. The world just isn't like that. ie any good.

No, but he has won Besti Director and the Palm d'Or at Cannes, which I'd take over an Oscar any day, since those are chosen by a small but diverse group of immediate peers.

Polanski wins the Palme d'Or this year. Finally, maybe a good movie from him, 26 years after the last good one.
