Stuff I've Missed

Ok so I've been here awhile now but I think I must have missed some stuff I just wanted to know what you folks think of -

Family Guy - personally I love it, lots of pop culture references and great one liners...

And the Matrix, surely there was talk on this when it first came out but I wasn't on then....

Maybe these should have been 2 topics but what the hell ...

Re: Family Guy

A great show. One day the Simpsons will (perish the thought!) go off the air, and Family Guy will be the only show that even comes close to replacing it.

Re: The Matrix

First I watched it for the kung-fu and the soundtrack. Then I watched it because Carrie-Ann Moss makes me feel all gooey inside. Then I watched it for the technical errors. Then I watched it for the religious subtext. And now I watch it for the kung-fu and soundtrack again.

I enjoyed The Matrix the first time I saw it. I thought it was the first (and still pretty much only) movie that really nailed how superhero action should/could look. It stole from everywhere, and was still half-decent.

One other thing about The Matrix. I found it lost A LOT the second time 'round. And I'm not talking about plot holes or anything; I was just surprised how much less fun I had the second time around. (I should note, though, that I'm not one to watch movies a second time -- let alone multiple times. Sure, I do watch *particular* movies again after a sufficient passage of time, but I don't do it all that often. Maybe I should've waited longer for The Matrix).

Still, it's a decent (though not spectacular) movie, the only movie in recent memory where the special effects really did blow me away. Unlike Jurassic (sp?) Park, which bored the shit out of me.

Man, do I hope an Invisibles movie gets made... (and too bad it didn't get made *before* The Matrix).

Unfortunatly, Family Guy doesn't get the credit it deserves. Most people see it as a Simpsons knock-off. I don't see why it pops up for a few months then disappears again. I think it should take King of the Hill's spot in between Futurama and the Simpsons. Then there'll be an hour and a half of cartoon goodness rather than 30 minutes of futuristic cartoon goodness, 30 minutes of crappy hillbilly stuff, and the good old Simpsons.

The Simpsons is observational comedy on life. Homer loses job, what would a real guy do?

Familiy Guy is observational comedy on observational comedy. Peter loses job, what would Homer do? Absolute genius.

It's dark, evil, fucked up and Stewie and Brian are amazing. Why, oh why did the second season disappear? Oh and the first season is available on video. Got it from Christmass and haven't stopped watching for a long time. Still cracks me up.

Oh and Rentaghost videos are also available.

Um, the show didn't disappear. Last Thursday Fox broadcasted four back to back new episodes of the Family Guy...

Not sure which all-too-easily batted about term I'd like to use here: hyperunreal, metaTV, or (shudder) PoMo...? Eh, forget it.

That being said, I often think to myself, what would Homer do right now?
girlfriend: we're out of milk
me: (rubbing chin deviously) out of milk, eh? un-less...
[cue screwball plan for getting milk]

Ugh. Where's that coffee gotten to?

Homer Simpson just the greatest character on TV -

quote:Homer Jay Simpson: When I first heard that Marge was joining the police academy, I thought it would be fun and zany, like that movie Spaceballs. But instead it was dark and disturbing. Like that movie -- Police Academy.

I could quote him all day but I won't

The 'Poochie' episode was on TV tonight. Possibly the greatest satire of MTV culture ever.
