Not being first-hand familiar with the original, I was totally into it.

The supporting cast were doing a better job than he was. He was still pretty close to what I'm familiar with as the original.

I know it's a cliche, but....

Last night when I flicked over to Dracula Keanu Reeve's accent had me in fits.

"Ahhhove Trocked the Bahsshtord dorn tor has Lor!"

Or something.

Re Keanu Dracula:

"It is Draahhhcula. And he is Euulld."

My friend and I spent much of the film "Dear Gohhdd!"ing at each other in the style of Ms Ryder.

Meryl Streep in 'Out of Africa'.

Ewan McGregor's painful Alec Guinness impersonation in Phantom Menace.

Keanu and Ryder are both awful with their accents in Dracula, but don't let off Gary too easily. What was it....

'da children ov da nite....
....vot bootiful muzik dat day mayik.'

awful.

I like Ewan McGreggor but his accent in Velvet Goldmine was pretty horrible, too. Trying to be Iggy Pop is a hard thing to pull off.

Shoot. I was hoping to be the first one to point that out. That may actually be the best possible scenario for a bad accent though--do it in a wretched movie and no one will notice. Good adice to any would-be screen idols out there.

That guy who's in all of Guy Ritchie's films (the one who plays the boxing promoter in Snatch) did the worst American accent I've ever heard all throughout The One. Everytime he spoke it made the film less and les watchable. I wouldn't mind, but there wasn't any need for him to actually have an American accent ion the first place.

On the plus side, he's that much less likely to have much of an acting career now, so we won't have to listen to or look at him quite as much...

as has of course been mentioned already: phantom menace

though frankly, nowhere near as bad as ewan bremner's cockney accent in mojo. ouch.

Although it's not the worst accent of all time, Emma Thompson's faux American accent in "Judas Kiss" made me wince at least a couple of times.

Oh God, what about Kenneth Branagh's American accent in Dead Again? Aaarrrggghhh!

Agreed on that, Fly. Who'd have thought that the era's premiere Anglo-Irish Shakespearean would make a hard-boiled Angeleno detective sound like--Kermit the Frog?!? Hi-ho!

'Cheeeldrenn oif the night, ah fottt sveet myoosic dey mak.'

Gary Oldman auditions for 'Allo 'Allo.

Then there's Val Kilmers bizarre disguises in 'The Saint', Uma Thurman's Mrs Emma Peel.

And Jar Jar Binks - his accent possibly being the most disgraceful crime in cinema history.

'da children ov da nite.... etc

Alright, I don't like Dracula, but you've got to understand Oldman's accent in context. The film does the whole mix and match various elements from the *Dracula genre* thing (incl. campy accents)...so, while this makes for a bit of a post-modern mess, it's a bit unfair to criticise Oldman for a silly accent he was probably told to ham up.

Well, that gets him off the hook there. But what about his Russian accent in Air Force One? Ain't no excuse for that. Fuck, I can do a better accent, and I only dated a Russian; I wasn't paid to be one.

I agree with Guns, to be honest - I tend to view the film as hilarious fun - the first few minutes where Oldman in bright red armour swaps gobble-di-gook with Hopkins ( he's the priest who damns Drac's wife, I just noiced that the other night watching it again ) is endlessly chuckleworthy.

best other bit - when Drac turns into a wolf halfway through humping Lucy Westenra - and she doesn't even notice !!! Bwahahahahahahahahaha !!!

I second Keanu in The Devil's Advocate.

Worst. Accent. Ever!

Another awful Southern accent: Gary Oldman in The Fifth Element. I guess he and Keanu should stick to their regular voices.

I can't believe you people think Ewan McGregor had a bad accent in Star Wars. What kind of accent was he supposed to have. There is no Scotland or Ireland on Naboo. Alls i know is that he sounded just like the old Obi Wan Konobi.

Irish? Jamaican? Scottish?

Human?

Ay wuz sent 'ere by me Watchuuur. 'E tinks dere's a baaad eeevil comin' to Sunnydale.

Now I tink of it, there was definitely a bit of Welsh in the emphasis of some of the syllables, too.

Oldman in Dracula.
Oldman in True Romance.
Oldman in Leon.
Oldman in The Fifth Element.

The common denominator is painfully obvious. Once, JUST ONCE, I think it’d be nice if Gary acted in a way that didn’t remind us that he was acting.. I only know a little of stage- and screen- craft, but I think this is generally held to be an important aspect of it.

Sorry, digression there, but I had to get it out of my system. Better now.

But surely his accent was meant to be awful in True Romance?

Nobody else mention Mr Gibson in Braveheart, guess it wasn't that bad then...

I realize it's been since last year that anyone wrote on this topic, but I can't resist:

Julia Roberts doing god knows what with her mouth in Michael Collins. Oh my god.
Nothing and no one is worse. I'm quite sure on this one.

Dan Akroyd in Driving Miss Daisy is the worst Southern accent I have ever heard in my life:
"Mom, I'm heyar..."
As if he didn't look like a jackass he had to sound like one too...
