Farscape - WTF?

This show is insane. Every time I miss a couple of episodes, half the cast have died, or come back from the dead, or changed sides, or got weird shit put in their heads...

Tonight's episode (in the UK) - am I going mad, or did they really just kill off the main character?

flyboy - i hope you're not slagging farscape. it's the most hilarious thing on tv, now and possibly ever. the rubber muppet aliens, the dreadful acting, esp from the hazel o'connor lookalike (check that one expression!).... don't knock it!

Yes they killed off kryten but there's two of him (he was duplicated in an earlier episode) and the other one's on Moya.

Farscape has managed to give me a grey skin fetish, which is a little worrying.

Right, that's what I thought. They're alternating between the two this series, right? Who else is on Moya - the beaky Klingon-rip-off guy, the beaky guy's son, the Thundercats girl and the muppet who flies the ship? Now, did the Peacekeeper girl with the dark hair choose one Crichton (as I think I've read it's spelt somewhere, the other kind of Kryten is on Red Dwarf...) over the other, or does she not even know that there are two of him? And does the Crichton on Moya still have Scorpius in his head?

sfd: I would never diss Farscape. I actually have a strange love for it, due to the fact that it started off kind of Buck-Rogers-meets-the-muppets dull and then went utterly bug-fuck Blake's 7 crazy without warning. I'm just annoyed that I'm rarely home from work in time to catch it on Mondays, so I can't follow the convoluted plot at all...

Okay no expert but. Beaky klingon's on there, Pilot's on there (there being Moya), Crichton 2 or 1 is on there, Gianna's (oh Gianna) on there and there's another space bird on Moya but I've no idea where she came from. Don't know why one Crichton or another was chosen, don't know about Skorpius but I suspect so. Peacekeeper woman is aware that there is two of them but was two much of a prude to take advantage of it.

Anya tried though.

I'm not convinced there is an overall plot.

Moya has the surviving Crichton, Ka D'Argo, not his son (who left after his dad found out that Chiana had shagged him - damn that Luxan sense of smell), Chiana and Jool, who is new.

Aeryn Sun (Peacekeeper girl) got stuck on Tallyn, and magic just sort of happened, much to Craise's porky irritation. Also present are Rigel and Stark, although what Stark is *for* exactly nobody is quite sure.

The surviving Crichton has a neural clone of Scorpius, but refers to it as "Harvey" and his brokered a reasonable ceasefire with it. Not sure if this also applied to dead Crichton. At this stage it hardly matters.

I tend to get in late on Mondays, but do find that a tape of Farscape is v. relaxing. It's one of about 5 programs I really make an effort to watch, just because it is so utterly fucked up. And a bit like Blakes 7. But nowhere near as good.

Better sfx though, you don't see so many of the strings.

So I'm not the only one who's confused by Stark? I cannot get a handle on him, does he have MPD or something?

And who's Jool and where did she come from?

I still remember seeing it for the first time after it had morphed from cuddly nonsense to scary black leather psychotic nonsense. What a rush. "Wait... the big living spaceship's kid bonded with the bad guy? And the even badder guy now lives in John's head? And hang on, they all seem to want to shag each other now, and... is that Cheetara?!?"

Stark should have stayed dead, though.

Talan (Moyas bastard child war ship):
Cryton:
With the help of Jack (ancient alien guy) got rid of scorpio mind clone, to die from radiation posioning after having lots of sex with officer Soon.
Officer Soon:
Now totally f**ked up after losing Cryton, who she loved, will have to face Cryton on moya (next series).
All others as they were, except Crayses who is now a good guy.
Moya:
Cryton:
Gonna a be a bit miffed by Officer Soon's reaction to him still being alive (next series).
D'argo (Klingon rip off bloke):
His son has f**ked off somewhere, however, things are improving between him and Gianna (the blueish grey lady who slept with his son), him and (moya) Cryton are best buddies.
CRAZY SCREAMING LADY:
F**k knows, but she came from one of the cryo tubes, so she should be dead soon, also shown as shes not in the credids yet.

The actor who plays Stark, is one of the gay agents in the Marix.
The actress who played San (the blue healer lady), was warrior woman in Mad Max 2.

I still find it weird that the bloke who plays Craise (sp?) also does the voice for Pilot.

Okay, there is no episode this monday (the 10th), because BBC2 would like to show us the snooker instead. However, the following week's show promises to be the most crazy freaky gimmic thing ever, as Moya-Crighton is beaten into a coma by D'Argo and most of the episode takes place in his brain in the style of a hyper-violent Chuck Jones cartoon.

I like Farscape because it just doesn't give a damn about its audience, and if you don't like it, it'll beat you up.

Farscape is very funny. I don't bother with it usually cause it's crapper than Star Trek Voyager, but it's defnutly better than Robot Wars Extreme for Friday Night stoned entertainment. I remember the episode in the first series, where they had those alien dudes who plugged themselves into testosterone fixes and then knocked each other's fuckin brains out!!!

That made me happy.

I'll agree with that for damn near every episode.

But now I've gotta jump in and disagree. IMHO, this is hands down the single best SF show on these days. The designs and SFX are top notch. The acting is phenomenal. And the characters are to die for. There's none of the Captain Kirk crap where everybody takes everything they see as normal. This show shows what would really fuckin' happen if someone suddenly found out about aliens. Add to that the fact that it takes some of the standard SF shows stereotype episodes and completely plays with them in new and interesting ways. Yes, it's definitely better than Robot Wars, but it makes Voyager as well as damn near anyother SF shows out there it's bitch.

Right, so who in the UK saw Monday night's ep, 'Fractures' (where they're all reunited)? How good?!?

Am I right in thinking that we're now up to where the Americans and everyone else is, ie any new episodes will be brand new episodes? I know that Seasons 4 and 5 have been commissioned but that there are still a few episodes of Season 3 left to go, that haven't been shown anywhere yet...

Also, let's have a deadpool. My money's on Jool: dead, dead, dead. Deader than the blonde girl in Smallville will be by the end of that show.

Nah, Jool will stick it out for a while longer. I'd say the next casualty will be Moya.

By the by, for my money the show is never as good as when Crichton is insane. Those episodes are priceless. God bless that one season where he went insane just about every episode.

And I already dearly miss Stark. "My side, your side."

Wow. That was a cracking two-parter and no mistake. Nothing like a high bodycount to end a season... But how many of them are really gone? No bodies... Craise and Talyn must be gone for good, I think, although I wouldn't mind seeing Aeryn go a bit crazy and go looking for them, although she's done that once already. I'd like to believe Scorpius won't be coming back either... Although he had plenty of time to get clear, if ya ask me.

Interesting to see where Thursday's coda episode takes us. Things look pretty fucked between Crichton and Aeryn now... Poor woman has lost the three people she was closest to, plus her ambiguous former friend/comrade/lover in the Peacekeeper, plus she's just blown up her former home and helped kill a good number of what were once 'her people' in the name of the greater good...

I love angst.

I guess the confirmed seasons 4 and 5 will involve the Skaryns (sp?) and the obvious Servalan rip-off Peacekeeper woman, then? Who is now allied with D'Argo's people...

By God, yes. Crichton has destroyed his only chance of going home (again - it's like Dungeons and Dragons the animated series in there...), Aeryn has pretty much severed her ties to the Peackeepers, but who did she run to save first when the command carrier went shaboom shabah...

Basically, I just want to know what next season's cast list is going to be. Crichton, Aeryn obviously, Chiana and D'Argo I very much hope. They haven't done anything with Jool yet, but surely they have to keep her around until they do, what with not having killed her when they had the chance and everything....

I can see something goping on where the others point out that Crichton has rather had things his own way lately, and they should sort some other stuff out for the othewr crewmembers - Going up against the Nebari or trying to reinstate Rigel...

And when did scary Servalan woman make treat with the Luxans?

Shit

Missed the season finale. Sounds bloody brilliant. or just bloody.
Watched pretty much the whole show this summer...feeds residual childhood fondness for Henson muppetry.

Anywhere I can get a plot summary to tide me over?

BTW, nice to know other folks have guilty erotic fascination with grey-skinned aliens...should start a support group.

Did anyone notice yet another huge Blake's 7 homage? I'm sure the massacre of the crew in John's wedding/homecoming dream/fantasy was a direct reference to the last episode of B7...

Anyway, few questions for those that saw it:

1. Am I right in thinking that D'Argo, Chiana and Rygel had already left Moya before Aeryn did? And if so, does that mean they may not all be in the next season? C'mon, we need the first two at least. Actually, I guess John probably has more chance of finding or being found by them than he does of finding Moya now.

2. Judging by his appearance towards the end, do you reckon the Scorpius clone in John's head is getting a bit less tamed and Harvey-ish? Sure, he helped him remember something, but he also seemed a bit malevolent...

3. Does anyone else suspect that the old witchy woman might actually be, if not evil per se, then certainly a lot more than she seems, and someone with big plans for John? She looked surprisingly evil when she was biting Jool's ear, and I can't help but think she may have been responsible for that wormhole in some way.

(I guess my 'no body' theory is screwed for Craise and Talyn, although I'm even more convinced now that the real Scorpy will be back.)

I was amazed by how much this episode affected me, actually... They've built up a nice pile of Buffy-style angst, largely by following the same procedure of putting the main protagonist through utter emotional hell. You kinda knew which way that 'coin'-toss was gonna land, even though you didn't want it to...

Poor Crichton. I'm increasingly coming round to the opinion that what he really needs is to have lots of meaningless kinky physical gratification with 'Pip'. Maybe that'll be the start of next season... nah.
