More Jarmuschly things: 'Dead Man' was so cool partly because of the score, IMO.

And to be really unoriginal here, I think one of the most memorable uses of a song in a film is 'The End' by The Doors, in 'Apocalypse Now'.

not a film, but i'm a big fan of the music on the twin peaks tv series.
Agreed. Had something of a marathon on the weekend, and noticed that the music is what really does make the visuals work - all of it from a very basic tune. I remember reading somewhere that the secret to Angelo Badalamenti's composition on TP is that the theme that's played all the time doesn't sit in any particular place, tonally- it keeps shifting, and the lack of fixity in it is what makes the listener feel slightly uncomfortable.

At least, I think that's how it was explained...

Well, any soundtrack done by Danny Elfman, in my humble opinion, is great.
I also liked the X-files movie soundtrack, which was ‘various artist’. However, I find that I have a special place in my heart for anything affiliated with Richard Ashcroft – I could go on, but it would just get creepy.

YES… that does mean “The Beach” soundtrack.
Please don’t hurt me.
