Of course I could search through a realm of old threads but instead I'll waste your time and ask here a question that has probably been asked before.

It's been confirmed that the man responsible for Pi and Requiem for a dream is going to be redoing Batman starting at year one - I'm trying to confirm rumours that the Dark Knight series and Batman Beyond are being considered for film.

Anyone heard anything?

Search by genre = comics, for info on more comics-related movies than the mind can comfoprtably conceive.

No mention of a DARK KNIGHT RETURNS film, though.

The dark knight returns thing was bandied about in some british sci-fi mags over the past year with Clint Eastwood linked to the part.

But it turned out to be "fan boy" wishlist speculation. It's one of those things that is continually "in development"

Darren Aronosfky. Directing "Batman Year Zero".

If he gets it right... it could be awesome. Blacker then hell, hopefully.

Oh, and he wrote the script for Twohy's "Below"; he wanted to dir it but clearly passed it on.

I think it was supposed to be not year zero but Year One...and what's even better...Aronofsky developed the script with Frank Miller himself. Now that would be a great movie. Just don't get James Marsden or some asshole like that for Bruce Wayne.

whatever happens, it couldn't be worse than the last two Batman movies (Nipples on his costume?), or Pi, for that matter.

There's all kinds of stuff about Aronofsky doing Batman at comics2film

Re the Dark Knight-Eastwood link, I seem to recall a report in Comics International saying that (following a quite successful adaptation of Knightfall) it was planned that BBC Radio might do the Dark Knight, and approaches were made to Eastwood’s agent. Interest was apparently expressed by Clint, but the BBC decided not to bother with the project.

My memoryholes might be showing there, mind.

I heard a rumour that Christian Bale was linked to the role of Batman for Year One.

Nope seems that David Boreanz is slated for the part.

Much as I don't like Buffy/Angel, this cold prove to be a very wise choice if he can pull off the playboy Wayne characterisation.

Any other suggestions for a good Batman

Thanks to those above who pointed me in the direction of some decent info.

Boreanaz as the Bat is perfect.

I'm a little unsure about his Wayne abilities though. The inability for an actor/director couple to suitable do the two persona's adequately has always been a failing point for the movies so far.

Keaton was a bad Wayne, Kilmer was mediocre at best and Clooney sucked at the Batman bit.

today:

Via Coming Soon! (http://www.comingsoon.net), Screenwriters' Utopia (http://www.screenwritersutopia.com) received a rumor claiming that "Batman: Year One" has been greenlit by Warner Bros. Here is what the scooper had to say to the site:

I just got back from a prelimenary work meeting with Darren Aronofsky, Frank Miller, and some designers. Anyway, we have been confirmed that "Batman: Year One" has been accepted by Warner Brothers and work is to be started right away for an early 2003 release, even though Aronofsky hopes to get the final cut done by Winter 2002. We have been asked to come up with some designs for the film, including (SPOILERS AHEAD) *A very gothic Gotham City. *Several designs for Batman. *Designs for Catwoman. *A few designs of the Joker. *Designs for the Batmobile. We've been told to research through "Batman Year One" and to expect the first look at the script within a week. For me, this is very exciting news and I hope it will be good enough for you.

Christian Bale. He was brilliant in American Psycho, would be awesome as Batman.
