Fuck Potter - the WORST WITCH

Oh thankyou thankyou thankyou, whosoever mentioned this film in the Harry Potter - Capitalism Bad! Thread. YOu have reminded me of my second favourite film *ever*, starring a pre-legal Fairuza Balk (probably too young even for all the thirtysomething BoyBarbeloids currently obsessing about pushing Scarlet Johanssen's school skirt sloooooowly up her thighs...) and

TIM

FUCKING

CURRY.

Is there anything better in the world? If so, I want to see it.

Favourite moment, anyone? I'm going for the thirty-minute song Curry performs as every single video editing trick in "not very good video editing using cheap and antiquated technology" is employed behind him.

Yes!
Yes!
Yes!

You are sleeping. YOu do not want to wake up. You are sleeping. You do not want to wake up...

Are you *sure* it was Fairuza Balk? Are you surely sure? Weird.

Definitely a fantabulous film though. You were serious, weren't you? Can't remember it well enough to have a favourite moment (though all the singing and cloak-swirling started a weird revolted-fascination with Tim Curry for me), but I always wanted to fuck about with some of that green stuff...
The books were pretty damn cool, too, for that matter...

Oh, Quite. In your dimension the Haus makes mistakes about fucked-up TV Movies. What else is different in the dimension you came from, Havok?

There's a complete guide to the movie
here. Worship its perfection.

I must've dimension hopped without realising. But that is *so very weird*. Is it not weird? It *is* weird.

That site made me remember just how great that film was though...a painful sweetness, seeing as I do not have it on video. But thank you, Haus...

So, I have to ask - what is the Haus' first favourite film ever? I am sure everyone else already knows...but remember I just got to this dimension, and please, humour me?

*opens one bleary eye* Whazzat? A film, you say? Of the Worst Witch? With Tim Curry!??!? No fuckin' wayyyyyyyy!!!! How come no one told me?
I have to get a copy- now! I have these cool mates with kids of WW/HP age who would just go men-tal for this as a crimbo gift.
(Not that I'd watch it first, or anything... )

actually it was me that was griping about how much better i suspected the worst witch was compared to harry potter, even tho i've not seen it yet.

and it was a t.v. series, never a film as far as i know. my schoolgirl ex that got me into it, tho it's still all a bit middle class for me: the clive barker short, filmed as candyman, was set in a council estate in the midlands - the magic and people in that were so much more real.

however: cholister should note that the p.e. teacher and miss hardbroom in the worst witch are begging to be slashed!

Just thought some of you might be interested to know that they have brought out a 'Worst Witch Goes to Cambridge University' type filmy thing. It is on on ITV this Wednesday, at 4.45 or something, and will no doubt be absolutely terrible.

Haus about we all give each other a big lovely huggle?
10:02 / 11.12.01
SFD - not in any sense intended to offend, but I believe the available evidence supports the contention that a film also existed. See links.

Cholister - I love you. And ym favourite film may be "Labyrinth", "The Princess Bride" or, once I finish watching it, incomprehensible Eric Stoltz fleshfest the Keys to Tulsa. As yet the omens are cloudy. At worst the Worst Witch will place about third.

jack and elly here, were thinking fan club for this film there has to be one, or at least a convention we can attend!!
we just love the worst witch, elly in particular loves tim curry as the grand wizard, having studied his career for nearly 10 years i definitely believe this is his best role. And as for jack he's a serious sheryl baker fan, yes that is her with the green hair and gappy smile, hot as ever!
we also believe that the new series on itv is ruining the fantastic reputation built up by all things worst witch, criminal really! so we plan to put a halt to it,
all those interested in ending this atrocity add a post now!
Tim Curry, Grand Wizard solo 'Tonight', yes we can sing you all the words by far one of the greater points to the film, whould you not agree?? And as for those effects fantastic! Another great part, mildred turning ethel into a pig fantastic oh and the tomato sauce moment, you know what to many to mention!
WOW would be the only word to describe this film!!!

Am I the only one in this thread who's actually seen the movie? They used to play it on the the kid's cable channels when I was a wee'un, and I actually caught it on the Disney Channel last month. It's been on US TV a shitload of times, but I always thought it was a UK program.

It's fucking terrible, by the way, but Tim Curry's scenes are pretty gay - in a good way. When he comes swooping in for the festival near then end, resplendent in white suit and blue screen, I feel a "wet laugh echo in my loins".

oi LDones u clearly have no idea wot u are talking about, the worst witch is clearly a classic in its own field as proved by the numerous responses on this page. I think u should keep youre, quite obviously incorrect, opinions about films to yourself from now on. and as for youre wet loins i think that there is only one place for you; behind bars. Goodbye.

haus, i like you so much more now. (i'm sure you can sleep better now knowing this, too.)
i LOVE this movie! now that i'm thinking about it, THIS movie could be the reason i so love british accents. watching it in my formative years and all.
you know what part i like? when fairuza turns the bad witches into snails, and they go, "we rewe rewe we we wee!" in their tiny snail voices.
tim curry IS so hot, that video part is so infuckingcridibly 80's, i could go on and on. i haven't seen harry potter but no way it could be better than this.
i mean, mrs. garrett from the facts of life is in it! as the headmaster and AND her evil...sister? cousin?
*sings* growing up, isn't eeeasyyy, wish the time would hurry by...will i ever learn to flyyyy?

The Worst Witch without doubt knocks Harry Potter off his nimbus 2000. Taht irritating radcliffe child is shown up for the amateur he is by the many fine actors in the film like Fairuza Balk and cheryl baker. The Worst Witch is truly WIZARD.

*singin*
"Onward ever striving onward
Proudly on our brooms we fly
Strait and true above the treetops
Shaddows on a moon lit sky.
Ne'er a day will pass before us
When we have not tried our best,
Kept our cauldrons bubbling nicely,
Cast our spells with zest.
Fearless witches never flinching
Through the dark and dismal nights
Ghouls and ghosts and nightmare monsters
Run away in fright
We are the girls with skills in sorcery
When in flight quite a sight to see
We're young witches and we're glad to be
Learning our craft at Cackle's Academy"

That film was the greatest. I still have it on video somewhere. I'll never forget Tim Curry flirting outrageously with Diana Rigg - "Oh Miss _Hard_broom..."

I used to have the film on VHS years ago but played it so much that the sound tracking has completely buggered.

It started a trend of Tim Curry Spotting - keeping my eyes peeling for the Grand High Wizard in alternative garb. Excited gibbering ensued whenever he was found (except for that appearance in Congo). And then of course IMDB was made and my game was made redundant. Such a shame.

Would anyone know anywhere that'd sell The Worst Witch on DVD?

I've checked play, sendit, amazon, and cd-wow, but to no avail.

Must relive younger days of being enawed by the amazing giant rainbow cape-of-many-colours as Tim Curry flies across the screen.

I remember Tim Curry making me feel all funny, and I didn't know why! Damn, even in the awful 80s-ness of the music videos he was still hot.....

For v. funny stills of the music videos, cut and paste the following link....
