well i've just moved in with a turkish woman and she was raving about some of the films on at the festival, so i went to see 'yol' (the journey). it was about prisoners who get a week's leave, so they go to see their families and inevitably find either tragedy or disillisionment, then have to go back to prison. it was a good film; i was torn between my sympathies for the lives of the prisoners and the far shittier way the women were treated. and apparently all participants risked their necks making it. anyway, it might be the kind of thing channel 4/filmfour will show at some point, so check it out if you can.

isn't yol an old film? my mum always raves about it....unless i'm thinking of something else.

yes kooky it was made in '82. and is wonderfully scratchy in places! my flat mate assures me turkey has changed a lot since then but the film's well regarded. it's kind of difficult to see stuff like this at the best of times so i thought better late than never!
