At the risk of alienating most of the board's "inner circle" (which I really don't wanna do, I like u guys) and others.. I'd just like to voice my discontent with this Transformers shite (you know what I mean...) Whilst I must admit it's pretty amusing, it's starting to get a bit childish now (and believe my... I love my fucking Transformers).

I don't think I'm being a killjoy, I just think it's beginning to make a mockery of some of the participiant's status on the board IMHO... and especially certain involved parties' habits of criticising other people for thread irrelevance and inappropriateness.

Put it another way... if you don't like the Greenlander's threads, DON'T READ THEM! Just leave them alone to their delusions. It's only cricket.

I think it could be argued that the Greenland Posse, through their behaviour on Barbelith, have effectively abdicated from their status as "members" in certain ways.

This behaviour not only being abusive behaviour towards individuals, but also "spamming" the board with off-topic advertisements for their threads, starting threads in wildly inappropriate places, using the false attractant tactics of bulk emailers ("Does anyone remember the Malibu/Marvel crossover? Well, YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE" does not, strictly speaking, count as a comic books thread), and generally violating the profoundly skeletal and unrestricting systems of etiquette of Barbelith.

So, their behaviour generally demonstrates nothing but contempt for Barbelith and its members, and a desire to disrupt its function. As such, it seems masochistic to treat them as one might someone, even someone whom you dislike or disagree with, who is basically treating Barbelith as a forum for communication rather than evangelism.

Ok, who held that meeting?? Surely, the Greenlanders are annoying, but the kind of summary judgement and lynchmob tactics that is being used leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I'm for one worried that it's going to dissuade other people from using the board.

If you're gonna propose there IS a system of etiquette on the board, Haus, then it has to be consistent, at the very least.

No, its in Laila and @GOD (Chrome)'s threads in the Headshop as well. I'd apologise but I'm not really sorry. The whole "I knew the WTC was going to be attacked but couldn't say anything at the time, maybe now you'll listen to me" shit threw me over the top. Sorry.

I was recently searching the Magic archives for that heinous St. Patrick/Ulster thread. It basically consisted of Chrome & Laila chatting to each other, but there was a fragment on the first or second page where one of them made light of the amount of bandwidth they were hogging up. It seems to have been deleted, however. (Good in general; bad because I wanted to cut that fragment and paste it here to show their utter disregard for Tom's bandwith troubles.)

They were/are the main reason I started a thread in Policy asking what moderation entails. Their posts take up a great deal of space and say very little (if anything) of interest. And they don't seem to show much (if any) respect for Barbelith.

I'm not sure how Tom or the moderators could handle them...I'd make a lousy moderator, because I'd delete their shit on sight and initial recognition.

It's one of thgose thorny free speech things. Tom is a great hug of a man and as such wants to be as inclusive as possible. So, until such time as the Greenland posse start to harrass people privately, they are allowed to play in the sandpit. There's only ever been one expulsion as far as I know, and the hand-wringing about that was endless...

Looks like it's been deleted. I was looking for it too, to quote in the Coversation Bendt's bit about the WTC bombing being "not the worst thing to happen this month" (or something) - merely so we could ponder, now that October's upon us, the significance of that particular (deleted) pearl of 'predicted' wisdom at length. But, oddly enough, it's gone.

As far as the Transformers stuff goes, thread-rot is thread-rot. Part of the process; difficult to sermonise against it.
