Okay, I think it came out around 96, 97, limited theatrical release over here IIRC. It's set on an earth about to be destroyed by a meteorite, everythings been tried and nothing works, so mankind is having it's last day before we all die horribly. The story follows a number of characters around, finding out what they're spending their last hours doing. It stars Callum Keith Rennie and David Cronenberg, amongst others.

What is it, is it any good and can it be bought in Britain?

Last Night.

My favourite Canadian Apocalyptic movie of all time.

You also asked if it was any good. I was so rushed before that I had no chance to contribute anything more than a one-liner. Sorry.

I loved Last Night. On a web site I used to contribute to, I had a weekly Apocalypse movie review, so I'll admit to being a bit of a fan of the genre.

Last Night was made for an international showcase of films about the end of the world. The contributors were asked to place the Apocalypse in the context of their respective cultures.

I wrote a longish description of the characters and their situation, but didn't want to even possibly ruin it for you. Let's just say that it's exceptionally funny, understated, with the occasional burst of violence, and it stars a number of famous Canadian actors who you will only vaguely remember from other films.

I can think of very few other films that show the Canadian psyche so well. Especially the fact that we all want to sleep with our French Teachers.

Don McKellar wrote/stars.
He's ginchy - had a small role in Cronenberg's latest, eXistenZ, too.

Oh, and the end of Last Night is one of the most beautiful things I've seen.

Last Night is magnificent.

It was released around the same time as Armageddon and I remember that Roger Ebert reviewed them both on the same programme, and said that they rather nicely summed up the differences between America and Canada.
