So, Friday night, I'm flipping around the tube. Come across Midnight Run on Cartoon Network. Turns out they're having some kind of special show that night. Nothing but animated music videos. Saw a couple of the clips they make using the shows they air. But also watched a couple of the Daft Punk videos for the new album. As well as all three Gorillaz videos.

Then Sunday night, I'm flipping around again (life? what's that?) right before midnight and what do I see on Cartoon Network but, "up next Cowboy Bebop." And not just one episode, two of them, back to back. Sunday was session #1 and #2, so there is still most of the season left. Thought some might find this interesting. It made me happy.

Cowboy Bebop is part of Cartoon Network's new block of late-night "adult" programming.

Cartoon Network isn't received in Canada, but I'm dying to see these new programmes - The Brak Show, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law, and the brilliantly-titled Aqua-Teen Hunger Force...

Yes. This new programming block has become my new religion. I immediately downloaded the opening theme to Cowboy Bebop. I love TV.

That, and there's New DBZ episodes Monday, so I get my fix of the statement "No! That's not possible!" and power correlaries directly related to the absurdity of one's hair. I love TV.

Looks like the Cartoon Network is going to have some cartoon competition from, of all the most absurd places, TNN. Yeah, TNN--as in "Dukes of Hazzard", "NASCAR", etc. I guess they changed from The Nashville Network to The National Network. And guess what? They're bringing back "Ren & Stimpy"--with new episisodes!! Full Story here. excerpt:

"TNN said Tuesday that it has tapped John Kricfalusi, creator of the early '90s animated cult classic, to produce all new adventures featuring the perpetually perturbed asthmatic Chihuahua Ren and his gullible feline friend Stimpy.

The deranged duo will star in six original episodes that will air in prime-time as part of TNN's adult animation block that will also include Stan Lee's new series, Striperella (featuring the, um, talents of Pamela Anderson), and Kelsey Grammer's Gary the Rat.

"Ren & Stimpy was a revelation. Along with The Simpsons, it was a major catalyst for the animation renaissance that happened during the 1990s. We are looking forward to seeing what mayhem John has in store for America's favorite Chihuahua and tubby tabby," says Albie Hecht, president of the Viacom-owned TNN. (Formerly the Nashville Network, the cable net has recast itself as the National Network, a general entertainment channel.)

(snip)

In addition to the six new episodes, TNN will also air all 52 original episodes of The Ren & Stimpy Show. The new Ren & Stimpy Show episodes will debut in 2003."

The cable station "Noggin," a whole Nickelodeon station geared towards the middleschool set, picked up Daria in reruns. They've horribly, horribly edited and censored it. When they aired "Is It Fall Yet?" they cut out the entire subplot of Jane's friend hitting on her at Art Camp, in the Tommy Sherman episode, they cut out the Lawndale High graduate jerk-jock hitting on Brittney. In "Depth Takes a Holiday", they cut out all use of the word 'bollocks.' Suffice it to say, I'm pretty damn annoyed. It's Daria for god sakes!

Cartoon Network (in the uk at least) also shows Samurai Jack which I've only just discovered but its *the* best animtion series I've seen for ages. Very cinematic and not afraid to use the medium in unusual ways. Highly recomended.

And I can't wait for new Ren & Stimpy

Noggin? I've never heard of this station before.

Why edit Daria like that? What's wrong with people. Afraid the little kiddies can't handle a few high school-type subplots or something?

Is there a Daria DVD out? If not, they need to make one.

I've got a Aqua Teen Hungerforce air freshener on it's way to me. I entered the drawing way back when, forgot all about and when I checked my e-mail there it was. Confirmation that I was getting one. That's pretty nifty.

Whenever I see the ads for cartoon cartoon fridays and Johhny Bravo comes on, I swear he says, "I'm all nude". Is my hearing going?
