just watched ' battle royale ' ... a fab film which i recommend anyone watch if they are in the mood for a 'extreme japanese violence in a social commentary' type thing .

BUT ... got a bit lost in the last 10-15 minutes .

same thing happened in audition ......and perfect blue .

would anyone like to share any theories they have on these , and other , films with somewhat cryptic endings ?

okay, i don't know if it's just me, but a whole fucking lot of Akira didn't make a lot of sense to me, especially the end. It may have something to do with it being around 3 in the morning whenever I'm watching it, but really, what the fuck?

Zoom.

Zoom - read the books. Just been rereleased, #6, final one, about to come out.

They help. A lot.

Roger Corman's Frankenstien Unbound. I loved the movie, Raul Julia as Victor Frankenstien and John Hurt as a time travelling scientist. However the last 10 minutes take place in a future wasteland and makes no sense to me no matter how many times I watch it. Though it is still my favorite Frankenstien movie of all time...next to Young Frankenstien, of course.

I must admit, my previous post isn't much help - you shouldn't HAVE to read the books to understand the FILM. But they help.

It's basically very rushed and misses out some key stuff and is generally rather complicated and odd.

Personally, I've lost total faith in Akira (the movie, the manga kicks ass). Zoom, not only is it not just you, I've never met anyone who completly understood the ending.
The problem is the movie doesn't even cover half of the manga. And in the manga, Akira is alive and well. So, in other words, you can't understand it, unless you've read the manga, since about 75% of the story isn't given to you in the movie.
And I second the call to read the manga. Great art, great story telling. The only problem has been having to wait 2-3 months between collections.

Not sure what the problem with Perfect Blue is. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I seem to not recall having any trouble making it out.

You mean the TV show? I guess I need to watch it again to see what you're talking about.
