I can't remember if this has had its own thread, but it thoroughly fucking deserves one, so here it is. Apologies if another exists.

This series has come a hell of a long way, from humble Chief Wiggum PI beginnings to kicking Buffy's ass on a regular basis (I'm talking superior quality of the series, not character vs character guff).

Season three has just started in the UK, and so far its been uniformly excellent, with some superb ideas, strong characterisation, and intelligent stories. I loved the episode where Angel fres the burning guy from the prison he's been trapped in (the one where W & H have been sending major bad vibes into Cordelia's head). The sequence in the alternate dimension had a profound resonance with me, like I'd experienced similar places in dreams but couldn't quite remember the specifics. Likewise, the episode in which Gunn's old crew hold everyone hostage in Caritas: a lot of playing about in grey areas, some knife-edge tension... the whole episode seemed to work on many more levels than Buffy has attempted in ages.

Is anyone else watching as avidly as I am?

Yes. Angel has been consistently good.

I would be, but haven't got Sky. And, seeing as nobody bothered to pick season 2 up for terrestrial TV, I probably won't until the videos come out.

That said, both seasons have been of a much higher quality, both in terms of script and characterisation, than the last two Buffy seasons.

I really don't understand how anyone could like angel S2. It was drawn out to the point I wanted to kill the actress who played Darla, just to make them stop flogging a really boring horse. And as for the last 2 eps i nearly stopped watching altogeather. Comedy alternate dimentions? Oh dear.

S3 however is being really good. The sitting round being all moody has gone away and the scripts have really bucked up.
Plus i like Fred.
I'm just waiting for darla to return and fuck it all up.
And how dare the kill Merl.

This season is much better than last, and last season wasn't at all bad. I LIKED that they took Angel into his darkest self and had him come out of it, it felt real, like an honest character arc. And they have enough backstory now that it no longer feels like a spin-off.

And since this season's Buffy has been sub-par, I have really gotten into the show. It will be interesting to see what they do with it.

And a different note, I see that the WB is starting to mess with the scheduling of the show...and even though it's getting better ratings than last year, it's still not been renewed because it loses so much audience from the Christian Family show on right before it. So, if the WB cancells it, UPN will be more than happy to pick it up.

Yes, though neither have been excellent Angel is currently much better than Buffy, which is now showing all the signs of having run for a season longer than it should have done and looks fated to fade away in a embaressed X-Files manner rather than finish with relative amounts of good will like...um... err...

Put it this way. Nothing I've seen on Sky thus far has made me want to buy the videos when they get released. I am fanboy, hear me whine!

Andy Hallett, dead of heart failure at 33.

Lorne was pretty close to being my favorite character in that show. His final scene in the series, leaving the group in disgust after what Angel had asked him to do, is among the show's best.

I was saddened when I read this. I regret the times when he was at DragonCon and I never got to see him. I heard he was a real fun guy.
