Series 7

Anyone see this? One of the funniest movies that I've seen in a long time. Gotta love the pregnant chick. All of you should see this satire of reality based television, which was made before Survivor was, by the way.

i just caught this the other day -- i couldnt believe how gripping it was -- despite being totally satirical, scathingly nasty about american tv culture, it STILL sucks you in and has you going up and down with every moment. it's right the fuck on -- and it's amazing that no one talks about it. maybe it was too close to home.

I absolutely loved this film. A friend runs the only theatre in town that ran the film, and he let me know when USA pulled/dropped it from distribution. Made sure I went to see it, and I was quite impressed. The emulation of its satirical targets is spon on, and the film is dead freaking funny. You will never hear 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' the same way after seeing Series 7. Quite highly recommended.

Incidentally, the same friend was sent a number of letters, three in all, protesting the film, based solely on the trailer. They're fantastic - maybe I can get him to scan them for me. If so, I'll post.

So it wasn't just my sleep-depreived, airline-food-rotted brain playing an evil trick on me? It really was good?

I loved this film when I saw it at the end of the summer coming back from America. Tidly screen in the back of someone's chair and Godawful Virgin-issue headphones. Glad to know it was as good as I'd been under the impression it was.

How very true. I had to put Joy Division on after viewing. Now I see images of those two.

this film was a great treat and so much fun after you've been watching Big Brother for 12 weeks, which is how i caught it. ain't seen too much of this type of American show but the tone was dead on. if only the show were real.

I thought this film absolutely stank of shit when I watched it a couple of months ago and just assumed it was maybe something that didn't bear the transatlantic journey.

It just seemed like a documentary made by drama students trying to take the piss out of reality tv or something and being uncomfortably unfunny.

This has been out for yonks, though, hasn't it? I seem to recall trying (unsuccessfully) trying to start a related thread when we saw it (start of last year sometime?) and no-one was especially interested - which increased the overall surreality of the situation.

Loved it, though, especially the Tony Parsons & Julie Burchill 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' montage.

i can only guess that people didn't see it because it was a little too soon -- it was the absolute high peak of reality tv in the states and you need a little breathing room before the satire is even bearable. it like, the only fucking thing people were talking then was all those shows, why go to the movies and get more of the same? in hindsight, of course, it was brilliant. hopefully it launched the makers' careers, i'd be curious to see what's next --
