You know, that film with Jeff Goldblum as 'tall, nervy, neurotic, Jewish guy'and Emma Thompson as 'English rose who is a nurse' and Rowan Atkinson as 'utter bastard'. Well, today on the news i heard a musical version of 'The Elephant Man' has opened in London...

Didn't Bowie star in a stage production of the elephant man a few hundred years ago?

Dear God! Life imitating art (if I can call it that)?

One of the best moments in the film for me is the wonderful exchange between a prostitute and Mr. Goldblum as he wheels his bicycle down an alley:

"Fancy a fuck?"
"No thanks, I've just had one."

Priceless.

Don't act so surprised...we all know that it was only a matter of time.

You betcha. Info here. (Scary Monsters had just come out, to give a sense of time.) Apparently, Mr Jones was quite credible in his role, and garnered good reviews - unfortunately this acting style didn't hold true for his performance in Fire, Walk With Me, in which he was shit. But then, he was up against midgets in that one.

Alas, the performance doesn't seem to have featured prosthetics. Bowie au natrel, using physicality rather than padding to become the character. Would've been interesting, but I'm sure it would've been a bigger hit had he done it in a Ziggy stylee. How you'd work guitar fellatio into a tale of deformity, though, is beyond me.

Would you believe, though, that Patrick White's Voss was turned into a musical once? Sweet merciful christ; I can't imagine that without cringing.
