In researching a documentary-drama about a single act of bioterrorism leading to a worldwide smallpox epidemic, the programme-makers uncovered sobering truths about the UK's preparedness.

Are any of you (in the UK) going to be watching this? Its been a good few weeks since I last freaked out over the impending apocalypse, and I figured that watching this would get me sufficiently paranoid for the next month or so.

And this reminds me :

WHERE'S ALL THE ANTHRAX, EH ?

Or could it be - gasp - that the media were exaggerating things a bit (especially in the UK)?

Actually there was a drama on the subject of biological weapons in an urban environment last year... The first episode came out the week after september the 11th ... then the anthrax attacks started and it dropped from the shedules - it was also dealing with issues of a disenfranchised immigrant population... not sure if it will resurface any time soon.

Yeah Anthrax, it was sooo popular two months ago. I couldn't get hold of it anywhere.

Did get arrested for trying though.

On reflection, I'm actually thinking of taping the thing for posterity. I have a feeling that in ten years time, we're gonna look back on this as a fine example of retro-noughties-apocalypse-kitsch. I'm young enough to have missed out on the 80s nuclear-winter paranoia docudramas, and i hope this'll make up for it.
Speaking of which, anybody got any disturbing anecdotes about the fear of nuclear war? My mum told me that she'd meet other parents waiting to pick up my older sister from school (before I was old enough for school) and they were talking about how if the 5 minute warning came they'd kill their kids so they wouldn't have to go through the apocalypse. In depth discussions would ensue about the most humane way of murdering your children- suffocation? Shooting? Overdose them on sleeping pills? Especially when you bear in mind that I would have been standing right beside them at the time, listening unaware as they discussed this...creepy, huh?

I shall not be watching this. I have enough trouble with morbid thoughts as it is.

It sounds like it's well-made and interesting but perhaps it's something to save for a more positive moment.
