On reflection, I'm actually thinking of taping the thing for posterity. I have a feeling that in ten years time, we're gonna look back on this as a fine example of retro-noughties-apocalypse-kitsch. I'm young enough to have missed out on the 80s nuclear-winter paranoia docudramas, and i hope this'll make up for it.
Speaking of which, anybody got any disturbing anecdotes about the fear of nuclear war? My mum told me that she'd meet other parents waiting to pick up my older sister from school (before I was old enough for school) and they were talking about how if the 5 minute warning came they'd kill their kids so they wouldn't have to go through the apocalypse. In depth discussions would ensue about the most humane way of murdering your children- suffocation? Shooting? Overdose them on sleeping pills? Especially when you bear in mind that I would have been standing right beside them at the time, listening unaware as they discussed this...creepy, huh? |
