Flair's not the new commissioner, although I imagine his arrival probably sped Foley's departure. He is being sold as the new part-owner of the WWF. Apparently, when Shane and Stephanie sold their shares in the WWF to buy WCW and ECW, they were selling them to a consortium which, unbeknownst to them, was in fact representing Ric Flair.
Other news - Jericho is heading for heel at speed - he blindsided the Rock after his match with Kurt Angle on RAW and put him in the walls of Jericho. Shano and Stephanie were dismissed, Shane going out with provision for a babyface turn (dignified and noble), Stephanie dragged out crying by security. The Alliance wrestlers (with the exception of Regal and Test, who won the one-year's immunity from sacking Battle Royale) are gone, other than those who held WWF belts at the time of the series - the Dudleys and RVD (natch), I think poss one other.
The big thread of RAW was that Vinny was becoming a monster of ego - the ass-kissing episode, firing Mick Foley, forcing RVD into a handicap match against the Dudleys, planning to strip Austin of the WWF championship in absentia and generally turning heel again. Flair arrived as a face. Angle is going heel because he doesn't feel appreciated for "saving the Federation". As Edge pointed out (Edge and Test, uniquely, were protected from the survivor series result - Test because of the Battle Royale, Edge because he held both the the WWF Intercontinental and WCW US titles), he did not take action against Austin until the end of the match, presumably because he was equally ready to sell out the WWF if necessary to ensure his own survival.
So, we probably have Vinny Mac leading a stable of heels headed up by Angle, Jericho and the Dudleys, Flair and possibly Shano Mac in a while with an army of faces lead by the Rock, RVD, Austin, Kane and the Undertaker. The Hardys will split up, one going to Flair and one to MacMahon at at guess, the APA I'm not sure about - having formed the emotional heart of the WWF's campaign, they could now go back to being amoral power brokers. HHH should be ready for a face turn, but may have to bulk out MacMahon's ranks with another big heel. |
