"So, uh, what do you wanna do tonight?"
"Mmm, get a pizza, watch Degrassi Jr. High."
"You got a weird thing for Canadian melodrama."
"I got a weird thing for girls who say 'aboot.' "

I am PSYCHED!! I used to watch "Degrassi" every day after school!!

>>Sigh<<

Oh Wheels, where are you now, I wonder?

I'll watch a new Degrassi, but I know it won't be the same.

"Wake up in the morning
Feelin' sad (shy?) and lonely,
Gee, I gotta go to school..."

I remember the gang

Pregnent Spike, the father who broke the egg]
Maaaad Vinny with his hate
Fat Arthur and his friend Ying who copied Arthurs sister's home work to see whether his teacher was marking him lower.
Arthur's sister who ran for school president or something, and her friend with glasses who became upset with her for kissing guys.

Ahhh the memories...

I read somewhere that Kevin Smith was actually going to be making a guest spot as himself on Degrassi: TNG. No kidding.

The pilot episode of the new Degrassi is going to have appearances by Joey, Snake, and Caitlin. Kevin Smith will be appearing as Caitlin's boyfriend. Spike will also be in the movie, and will also be a cast member for the regualar series, since her daughter will be a member of TNG.

Wheels. That poor kid. Parents killed in a drunk driving accident before he could make up with them, found out he was adopted, had to live with Grandma who he didn't get along with, his father didn't want him around, almost molested in a pick-up truck, his band could only play two songs, the fall guy in all Joey's schemes, and, in the final Degrassi movie, he went to jail for killing a classmate in, ahem, a drunk driving accident. I don't think one good thing ever happened to that kid. My friend saw the actor who played him sitting on a bus looking depressed one day. Or maybe my friend just saw the spectre of Wheels.

At least he didn't get it as bad as Dwayne. During a Degrassi reunion program on Jonovision, someone asked what their characters would be doing right now, ten years later. The guy who played Dwayne said, "Why are you asking me? I had AIDS!"

Spike's child can go to school now? I feel very old.

aw I remember the attempted molestation of Wheels. something about the dialogue and the acting as if the scene took place at the bottom of the sea.

I saw him in a restaurant about a month ago.

I wasn't sure if he was a patron or staff.

Was Degrassi ever shown over here? The name sounds familiar but whever I try to bring it to mind all I get is that sod-acheingly awful 'Heartbreak High'...

Oi! Tom'll snap you if he hears anything disparaging said of Dimitriades' stagecraft...

That said, I believe Degrassi did get shown in the UK. Fuck, I saw it in Australia, so it must've done the rounds...

...although it wasn't a patch on Beachcombers. You want Canuck drama, you go there. Logs! Boats! That guy who wore the beanie! Ahh, that's the life...

'kids from degrassi st' and 'degrassi jnr high' were both shown in the uk on Childresns BBC. surprisingly neither run seemed to garner much intrest with kids much more keen on Grange Hill and Byker Grove.

OOO! BYKER!

Top telly. I remember the first series, with 'Duchess' and the lad from the wrong side of the tracks... Their love was pure, until she got pregnant and he accidentally drove his boyracer car under a truck.

Oh, and it alerted young Brits to the dangers of paintballing:

"PJ! Ah cannae see!"

Bykerbykerbyker byy-kerrr grove. (a-ha, a-ha, a-ha...)

i remember i really liked the show, though.

Remember when everyone on Degrassi wanted to see Gourmet Scum? And that one kid, like, OD'd on Acid or something?

Ahh, memories...

DON'T think I can take it,
I wonder what I'm gonna do..."

I used to watch 'the kids....' when I was five and lived with my Nan in Harrow on the Hill. It used to depress the fuck out of me.

But not as much as 'Cockleshell Bay', 'Heads and Tails' or 'Pigeon St'.

God, the shit you had to sit through to get to 'Battle of the Planets'.........

anyone ever hear the song "i'm in love w/ a girl named Spike" by Skankin' Pickle? it's SOOOO cool!

I am doubting this somehow.

Doubting what? The Neil "Wheels" Hope interview? Or the Skankin' Pickle song? Because I'm fairly sure, but not positive, of the Neil Hope thingy, but I am 100% positive of the "I'm in Love with a girl named Spike" song.

Cue the Canadian National Anthem, then...GO!

"There is a girl named Spike from DeGrassi High
she had a baby when she was real young
Her best friend is a skinhead chick
she knows an asian boy named Yick
and Caitlin she is very chic
but I'm still in love with a girl named Spike
I don't write love songs
in fact they make me very sick
but Spike the girl from DeGrassi High
she's truly one cool chick
She has the best TV show
better than Beverly Hills 90210
and Shannon Doherty well she's ok
but I'm still in love with a girl named Spike"

Here's an interview with the song writer and his adventures with a girl named Spike. Spike is the only member of the Degrassi entourage I've ever bumped into, and she's very cool, and completely punk rock, even to this day.
