quoteID YOU SAY... TEEN TITANS?!? Get excited, silver age fans! One of Jay's all-time favourite comic scribes is back! Bob Haney, the king of DC camp, co-creator of the Teen Titans, the Doom Patrol, and author of the wackiest Brave and the Bold issues EVER is back with an all-new Teen Titans story! TEEN TITANS - ELSEWORLDS, pencilled by Jay Stephens, inked by Mike Allred, and coloured by Laura Allred, promises to be a genuine flashback to the fab days the early sixties, and guest stars none other than... President Kennedy!!! Keep your ever-lovin' eyes peeled for this one, due out in the summer from DC comics, of course!

Because you demnded it! Even more Teen Titans news!

Rumour has it that the same team that brought you the Animated Batman and JLA programs are considering a Teen Titans cartoon. More info can be found here.

This really pisses me off. OK, so it's just a rumour, and a rumour for a superhero cartoon no less. But I just can't imagine what the audience for a team composed of Robin, Changeling, Raven, Cyborg, and Starfire will be. Does anyone outside of a few hardcore fans of the 80s series even know who half these characters are? People who care tell me the appeal of that run was it's soap opera like structure and mature themes (for the record, I hated the Wolfman/Perez era). How is that supposed to translate to a cartoon series, other then confuse even larger groups of people?

I've heard of three oppurtunities for the Batman producers to switch gears and create series that would be less grim and a little more fun. Legion of Superheroes, Shazam, and now this (the Alex Ross sketches for the Shazam series are ace, and they are probably the greatest work I've ever seen from him). Why not make a light-hearted Teen Titans, like the 60s comic, with a small core of characters that not only have their equivalents in the adult team, but also have powers that are easily idetifiable. Something fun! I have an episode of the cartoon they made in the 60s of the Titans, and it's brilliant. At least it would be better then that horrid JLA cartoon.

OK, fanboy rant over.

I'm amazed that they haven't jumped on the Legion of Super-Heroes yet, I think that could make for a very popular animated series - it's in the future, it's a big cast of teenagers, there's always new characters and situations to use (ie, endless novelty), it's usually camp and light-hearted, the silly names are cute, etc. I fail to see how 80s New Titans is better suited, so I'm totally with you on this, Moriarty.

Truth be told, my experience actually reading the Titans is very limited. I remember being a little kid and thinking of them as being like the generic version of the X-Men, which I guess was the common understanding of what that series was. I distinctly remember looking at one issue in a comic shop when I was 8 years old, and trying to figure out why the entire issue was just some dark-haired woman (Raven?) naked, swimming around, and acting all tortured. Moriarty, do you know anything about that issue? What the hell was going on?

Damn, this comic was a long time coming. I have no money for comics, but rest assured I'm going to be rolling pennies for this puppy!

I never much cared for Haney's stuff when I was a kid, mostly because I was brainwashed by Stan Lee into thinking that DC's plot heavy style was inferior to Marvel's character driven style.

I DO like that DC is giving writing jobs to older creators (I see Len Wein has a new Batman mini out...). I'd be happy if they went to a lot of the older creators and said, "How would you like to do a hardcover?" Imagine if Kubert could do a 96 page deluxe Sgt. Rock story, and so on...

Kubert is doing a Sgt Rock hardcover, written by Brian Azzarello.
